Classical music offers what everyone secretly wishes metal would: an unbroken cultural tradition untamed by the modern whore, untouchable by the mediocre tools who seem to thrive in our industrial cities. Here's a few favorites: 1. Brahms, Johannes - Get your Romanticism on. Flowing, diving, surging passages which storm through tyrannical opposition to reach some of the most Zen states ever put to music. 4 Symph. (2CD)2. Respighi, Ottorino - Italian music is normally inconsequential. This has an ancient feeling, a sense of weight that can only be borne out in an urge to reconquest the present with the past. Pines, Birds, Fountains of Rome3. Saint-Saens, Camille - Like DeBussy, but with a much wider range, this modernist Romantic rediscovers all that is worth living in the most warlike and bleak of circumstances. Symph. 34. Bruckner, Anton - Writing symphonic music in the spirit of Wagner, Bruckner makes colossal caverns of sound which evolve to a sense of great spiritual contemplation, the first "heaviness" on record. Romantic Symphony5. Schubert, Franz - A sense of power emerging from darkness, and a clarity coming from looking into the halls of eternity, as translated by the facile hand of a composer who wrote many great pieces before dying young. Symph. 8 & 96. Paganini, Niccolo - Perhaps the original Hessian, this long-haired virtuoso wore white face paint, had a rumored deal with the devil, and made short often violent pieces that made people question their lives and their churches. 24 CapricesExcerpted from one of my blog posts at Metal Blog. What can you recommend in the vein of a Celtic spirit? The O'Riadas are fine, but I find them too peaceful and, I'd hate to say it, 'English.' Any other music I can find of Ireland is either metal, green-beer rock, or folk songs. While I love the first and the third, this doesn't satisfy my need. I often wonder if I oughtn't to take up classical composition...

If you're here just to follow an un popular trend so people can look at you diffrently, you should leave now. (Otherwise, Welcome to the forums! )We're not going to tell you what music to listen to. I am how ever am going to tell you rap and hip hop are greatly frowned upon for obivious reasons I dont need to point out. Music varies with every person, its all about opinions, attitudes and emotions. The way people look at music is alot like finger prints, and taste buds. I have always listened to Metal, but I love me some country music.

Burzum, Graveland, Falkenbach... The Corrs... Music I listen to is usually metal, usually with folk influences (or just folk - Korpiklaani and Wojnar for instance). If it's got a good beat, a good tune, and a good message for the listener (or rather, not a bad message - no "beetches" and "dollaz" and "gangsta" bollocks), then I'll enjoy it. Typical genres include Black Metal, Viking Metal, Folk Metal. I also listen to a little bit of Skinhead Punk, mainly because the lyrics are brilliant.

I stick to folk music, usually. The Irish have a wide range of songs, such that you can sing to yourself and explore, in so doing, a compelling story.

i like it so far... black metal shares alot with national-socialism. national romantism and the idea that utopia will kill us all.

One of my favorite groups of all time and one of the most beautiful pieces I have ever heard. Knowing their backgrounds and country perhaps, there is something about this project that speaks very deeply to me like no other - enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvrZuNSltJw
