Ways to find out why people like the music they like:

Leftist: Attribute it to a psychology of hegemony, the only thing leftists really study. "They like this music because it helps them accept being gay" or "they like this music because it explains why they should dominate (snicker) gays" are both acceptable.

Iconist: Like any good dogmatic literalist Christian, you want to assign symbolism of eschatology or teleology to people. "He likes that music because he's heading to hell" and "he likes that music because his spirit wishes to rise to heaven" are both acceptable.

Literalist: Your attention span is five minutes. Therefore, a tautology comes about. "They like it... (long pause) just because... (longer pause) they like it!" To you, music is random notes that sound good. There is never any intent. By the way, I do want fries with that.

Sociologist: Assign to demographic. Closely related to liberals, the sociologist sees hegemony as a matter of statistics. "He likes it because 81% of the people in his socioeconomic (read: hegemonic) range find music with an authoritative beat reminds them of their fathers, who growing up in a depression had a 61% greater likelihood of sodomizing him before age 11" or "He likes it because he likes it, and people like him don't fit statistical models because they're losers," both apply.

People like music not because of it's phycal reasons, but people enjoy the emotions that music bring up. Ever ejoyed the feeling of a sort of mental flight when you listen to Vivaldi? A feeeling of superiority or complexity when you here a harpsichord cencerto of Bach's? I think people like the musice like because of the way themusic makes them feel. How they use that emotion to justify who they are or the way they normally feel is up to them and correlations can be found, though the correlations are no reason for liking music.

I listen to a large variety of music, im 15. I will listen to anything from Hank Williams to Lamb of God and Pantera. One thing I myself have learned from having a large variety of music, is it all depends on what mood I'm in. Music has a major say in attitudes and emotions. So I think that music is based on emotions and feelings of the individual.

Excuse me. music to help you accept that you're gay? That doesn't seem to be accurate.

Like one of the previous posters I listen to a wide range of music, from the classics, Emilie Autumn, to hardstyle techno. I like music for feelings that the evoke or if I can dance  to it. It's a matter of how I'm feeling.

If you want to get down to the whys people like what music they do, then it's like anything else:

1. they haven't become themselves yet, so they make choices based on what other people said they liked

2. it matches the rhythms in their blueprint (ie natal chart)

I'd think that anyone that has become themselves is going to have a wide-range of musical tastes. While I like a large range of music, I notice that the music I really hate all has a lot of similarities - I don't enjoy how the soundwaves move through me or the beat it has. The energies seem disruptive to a healthy state of being, and move the thoughts into a stupid zone - fill the head full of garbage bouncing around. If you ever had a tune stuck in your head, & not because you wanted to be thinking about it, then you'll know what that means.

& obviously it is about feeling - just because I like whatever music doesn't mean I want to hear that particular music at whatever-particular time. Some days my tastes differ, though what I don't like remains constant. And just because I like some tune doesn't mean I want to hear it outdoors or through someone else's music player of some kind.

Just out of interest, does anyone else really like a lot of electronic music styles, but finds that whole thing about ruining the peace and quiet of nature with outdoor tunes just wrong in every possible way.......it's supposed to be for surviving urban nightmares, and they want to put it outside and worse, in natural places. It's like someone else taping over your favourite films.

That's why in most phsycological clinics It is a way to cure people.

Most good music comes with lyrics, and if you realy adhire taht lyrics is applied in your way of life then it is realy a cure and a change for good.
I agree with variable kinds of music if it realy express the way you live.

Britney Spears and Necrophagia help some accept that they're antipose that cannot ascend in life. Of course it makes sense.

Music is a good release. Imagine the world without music. Imagine watching a movie or tv show without any sort of musical soundtrack. Even imagine watching the news without any of that dramatic music in the background. It would be boring as fuk. Aside from the standard rock, country, rap, pop, there's so many other music styles to consider.

I'm a musician and I find making music to be a good way to express myself. Calling people gay for being sensitive about music is like calling people Jewish for not wiping their ass after taking a feces. It doesn't really relate.

I like all kinds of music. It's really pretty noise. If you wanna call me gay for liking a certain kind of music, then alright. At least I'll be a dyke with an awesome playlist.

For sure ADN is the key to understanding why you like the music you like.
Statistically speaking, everyone of us know that non white people listen a lot of hip hop and rap music(wich btw sucks) and they does not listen to metal or techno etc etc.

rap does not suck, if black metal can have ultranationalist african bands. then why can't rap have ultranationalist white people doing it? 80% of rap listener are white college students. rap is made for white people anymore, it is a treachery to a culture that they have slowly and steadily developped.

capitalism took it, change it to sell it to us. a while after, they do not even change it for us, the format is there and doesn't change.

do black entertainer profit from white college students? i think black entertainers have made alot of money with racism. including one against themselves,

but then guerrilla communist words do not mean anything, often they are condemned for profiting off the idea that they are ruthless socialist revolutionary. while giving absolutly no reference to real activists . and stepping down to law enforcement when the album is supposedly too violent, because too violent means more money from whites anyway. feeding off both racism and anti-racism that does not give white any sort of a warrior subculture. and leave african-americans to develop such a culture to impress our youth. should we accuse them of anything? hell no, they control what they say so that record deals are better remember?

we would accuse them of impressing our youth ..? our warrior subculture is in fact repressed by the state because of it's association with fascist and racist ideals. but where does that culture go? is there really any difference between a white gang member with a red bandana or just any uniform he would take?

rap musician used to have a much stronger social conscience than they have right now, because it was born out of nationalistic needs. they would be careful about words they say, even if not conservative and often talk about sex or clubbing.

one thing that i can't forget about music is what people want to hear. crime, violence, drugs, sex now those are interesting subjects. but a black rapper saying those words: why spend your genius on crime , you could be a lawyer. that's a record that doesn't sell well

but back when it was not popular and ethno-centric to black, money did not matter. and they were then able to pass on values they felt were needed

I like music because it speaks to me. It captures how I feel at different moments in my life.

When I was dating my ex, I use to love listening to Nickleback's "Far Away". (Because she lived on the other side of the fucking planet) Evidently she was a cheating whore. And I'm glad I solidified my immigration position. I would never let her fucking ass into this country now.

Another song I tend to relate to is Monster Magnet's "God Says No". It's bleak, it's depressing, it''s anti-Christian. But then, that's how I feel. I've yet to meet a Christian who's done the Christian thing and fucking putout lol! I don't ask for much. Just don't kill babies, and don't leave me. If you can't manage to that, why SHOULDN'T you be cruicified?

Yet another song I like is A Perfect Circle's "Pet". It's intended for the illuminati. But I actually use it as a love song. I'm very possessive and cynical. It's possibly my favorite song ever because it so accurately depicts how I love.

Musical taste and interest very for everyone. Personally for me music can be scientifically in someone's genetic makeup, I mean, they say 'oh well a lot of whites like rock' or 'blacks just go crazy for conga drums' haha which may not necesarily be always true, but it seems to be a stereotype, and as wrong as those are, all of them start with a bit of truth, yes?

But more so it just depends on what my mood is. I can listen to Rachmaninoff and Chopin and in the same hour listen to Rammstein (which is totally Leftist bull, almost all sex-oriented music) and Metallica.

Music also brings back a lot of memories, you know? Your mind tends to drift.

I think asking people why they like the music they do or discriminating against them for liking it and having individualism is stupid. Even going so far as to put statistics and all that just seems kind of absurd. Music delves deep within humanity. I've never met a single person who disliked music or didn't once feel the urge to tap a pen on the side of a table to a beat to kill boredom.
