Recent food science suggests modern foods lead to degeneration. Tooth decay, for example, is not as prevalent in primitive groups who eat traditional hunter-gatherer food, contrary to groups who rely on imported foods, or even most suburbs in the West. As a response to this came the Paleo Diet, based on what humanity as a species used to eat before the relatively "recent" Agricultural Revolution. Said in more simple terms: we just aren't eating naturally. Here's a list of modern foods that have been proven to be unhealthy for us.

A Paleolithic Perspective on Modern Food

I'd like to say that I'm tempted for the sake of my health, but I'm not. The meals you can make from this list of healthy stuff sounds... yummy. (Having focused intently on eating more fruit and berries, I can say that I'm not going to miss the inferior sweetness of refined carbs anymore.)

From Ben Klassen's Salubrious Living

Quote
Food plays the major role in determining the health of the body. If you suffer toxemia (where the body throws off toxic burdens) and deficiency you may be sure that incorrect selection of food has
been chiefly responsible. If, on the other hand, you possess vibrant health with great strength, endurance and an abundance of energy year-in year-out, you are no doubt one of the few who has endeavored to make a practical application of food science.

Klassen recommended that we eat primarily raw foods(vegetables, fruits, nuts) to attain the highest level of overall health.

Vegetable oils are usually processed at high heats. The process includes adding the poison solvent hexane, which also binds with the pesticides in the oil seeds. The heat makes the unsaturated fats oxidize, making them poison. To compensate for the lost storability, the chemical compounds BHT and BHA, said to cause cancer and brain damage, are added. Margarines are similar, stuffed with trans fat, which is toxic, but which the body treats as regular fat cells. Replace both with cold-pressed vegetable oil or coconut oil.

Disturbing...many food contains this type of ingredient. Better check that Twinkie roll I bought just now.

I recommend that everyone here read 'Spartan Health Regime', or at the very least research the Paleolithic Diet in depth.
I personally believe that it would be virtually impossible to go wrong with a paleo-diet. Within this framework, the body consumes only that which nature has proven for thousands upon thousands of years to be of direct benefit, and without the modern waste.
