I’m not sure how intertwined this is with the group; probably addresses the Green part, but I had enough of the $4 gas today.

Partly due to a thread Night Train did a while back for a call to action; I dusted off the old mountain bike today and road the sucker back to work. I missed judged the amount of time and was late; sweating like a pig in heat and breathing like no tomorrow, but I turned away from the fossil fuel consumption and polluting of environment for one drive. The true test will be how many times in the future I can do it.

I’m fortunate to live only a couple of miles from work; so it’s not horribly inconvenient compared to our spoiled nature, but I hope it makes a difference.

Day 2 of pedaling to work; I’m beat! I still play soccer at 45; but this is still kicking my ass. I’ve ridden before and know it takes a while to get back in the swing of it, but there is something about riding to work that takes extra effort. For example; riding home is pleasurable, haha.

Sticking to my guns, that is the point.  Shocked

Still at it now in day 3; after some blood pressure raising skirts with cars from the rear, last night I rode straight to the bicycle shop and got rear view mirror and fancy stat keeper. My ride is 1.5 door to door and I’m doing it 4 times a day; riding home for lunch. I couldn’t take the shortcuts with my car; and I suspect it was about 2 miles for a total of one gallon a day just to and fro work since I have a 68 Firebird that sucks gas at blinding speed.

I feel a since of accomplishment; I can promise there are less than .0001 % riding bikes to work in Tulsa Oklahoma.

Well at least your work is close to home. I had a couple of friends who bike to work and neither of them have had cars for years. But that is at least half to do with money, they work diligently, but don't get paid squat. One of them works at a bike shop and is a bike aficionado, I don't think either one of them truly minds riding a bike to get places. I think they rather enjoy it. The bike aficionado will ride for miles and miles to get anywhere around town. The other one doesn't ride as extensively, but on occasion he will take the huge trek of going to Sandia Casino which is just outside of town. That's gotta be a good 10 miles or more.

Are you peddling,or spinning? If you don't have clip-on's , your missing out.

Mr. B

If you mean by clip on’s; the pedals that your shoe go into keeping the front of your foot on the pedal, no I don’t have those on this bike. I have used those before; but on bikes when I was actually “mountain” biking. This particular bike I bought for recreational use with the kids around the neighborhood, I never intended it to be anything but that. Things change huh.

I had never realized how nasty our cars exhaust fumes are; you don’t understand when driving around in your car, but when you are on a bike it’s a different story.

It is a shame more people don’t do this.

I know I posted this before but ucsofa.com has the technology to reduce emissions from any internal combustion engine to the point that it's safe to breath from directly, see for yourself in their videos

Yep

Last night was a BEAR though; the downgraded Gustva had me pedaling into 30-40 MPH gust, at points I was reduced to 2 MPH or so. WOW

And it's pouring rain this morning so I drove for the first time in weeks; but other than that I love it.

good man!  am impressed, wish i could cycle every day, but its about 12 miles and i need to use my car for work most days, but i tend to cycle everywhere else that i can. i hate having to pay such high petrol prices to companies that then turn over huge profits
