On the occasion that I am forced to interact with 'the general public' I invariably come away feeling annoyed at the apparent dreadful lack of political will exhibited by the population at large. I fail to see how anyone can be 'apolitical' particularly in this day and age. There seems to be some sort of apathy that descends upon otherwise apparently intelligent people the moment that things political arise, and so, for a number of reasons, I believe that political education of the population is a must. And as I utter these words I can hear the mutterings of apathy beginning. Political insight at even a rudimentary level is extremely important:
"It is my conviction that, in general, aside from cases of exceptional talent, a man should not become publicly involved in politics before his thirtieth year. He should not do this because as a rule, until this time, a general platform is being constructed from which he then examines the various political problems and ultimately determines his own position on them. Only after arriving at this Weltanschauung* and the resultant constancy of his own point of view in regard to the questions of the day should or may he, now at least inwardly matured, take part in the political leadership of the general public", Adolf Hitler, 1932.
But of course I cannot impose my will upon others and have them appreciate the content. The kernel of the problem is that we do not insist upon a degree of competence in our political leaders, if such were the case then they (the politicians) could be performance managed, and then we may begin to see the beginning of efficient government.
Far too many bureaucrats have already surpassed their own level of incompetence, "A Führer who is forced to depart from the platform of his general Weltanschauung as such because he has recognized it to be false only then acts decently if, upon realizing the error of his prior view, he is willing to draw the final consequence. In such a case, he must, at the very least, forego the public exercise of any further political activities", Adolf Hitler, 1932.
*Weltanschauung - literally 'a world view' of a comprehensive nature.
