02/16/2008: "Debasing maleness creates useless males"
The [Single Young Men, preferring, as Hymowitz says, "to hang out in a playground of drinking, hooking up, playing Halo 3, and, in many cases, underachieving"] phenomenon is rooted in the failure of contemporary culture to provide young men with worthy ideals and aspirations. Traditional maleness isn't is to blame for the child-men, as feminists might claim, but the debasement of maleness.
I've made this argument elsewhere, so I'm repeating myself here: It has been assumed that men are inherently violent, and, thus, we have used our education system, societal pressure (think: political correctness) and even the economic system to suppress traditional concepts of masculinity -- pride, honour, courage, tenacity. Instead, technologically dependent societies want cooperative, consensus seeking masses that will be content with the baubles and beads of the consumer society.
If you raise boys on violent video games and give them easy access to pornography, don't expect them grow up to respect the law or to respect women.
[ You tell the Caucasian male that he is worthless, an oppressor, and that women and minorities want to lead the way. Then anything he does is automatically seen as selfish advancement of the white male. You hand him tons of PC regulations to follow and cut him off from his culture. He is shown as an idiot in the media. Consequently, he checks out mentally and does what is fun for him in the meantime, as if he knows that society is on a path to wreckage. It's his way of saying "destroy yourselves, but not on my dime." ]
