04/05/2008: "San Francisco proclaims itself "warm feelings zone""

"We will stand up and fight for people so they live their lives out loud in the light of day with dignity and respect," said Newsom.

"This is one issue where the political will is unified on both sides of the aisle," said San Francisco Supervisor Tom Ammiano.

"Here is one place where you will find compassionate people in city government," said Rev. Phil Lawson from the Coalition for Human Rights.

What will it cost the city to get the word out? $83,000 dollars.

[ Warm feelings cost almost nothing, although we don't think about what their consequences are. We want to feel good about ourselves. And if these people aren't as 1337 as we are, we want to hire them at minimum wage to scrub our toilets, mow our lawns, watch our kids and wash our cars, at least until they get sick of the oppression that is poverty in a rich nation and rise up and murder us all. Oh well! Good feelings feel good now. Historical importance feels good later. See? ]
