04/11/2008: "High School teacher suspended for calling students "trailer trash""

Education officials in Marshall County have suspended a John Marshall High School teacher after she admitted to calling her students trailer trash."

The controversial remarks have some local parents upset. The teacher claims the comment was made because of stress.

She admitted to the school board that she sent a memo to her students saying: "If you want to act like trailer trash, I'll treat you like trailer trash."

[ "trailer trash" is the white equivalent of certain pejorative terms for African-Americans ]
