04/24/2008: "EU defends biofuel goals amid food crises"

The EU Commission on Monday rejected claims that producing biofuels is a "crime against humanity" that threatens food supplies, and vowed to stick to its goals as part of a climate change package.

"There is no question for now of suspending the target fixed for biofuels," said Barbara Helfferich, spokeswoman for EU Environment Commissioner Stavros Dimas.

UN Special Rapporteur for the Right to Food Jean Ziegler told German radio Monday that the production of biofuels is "a crime against humanity" because of its impact on global food prices.

[ While mass starvation may in fact be a blessing in an overpopulated world, there is no doubt that biofuel production is playing an enormous part in that. ]

Environmentalism and Humanitariansm (as it is now at least) are in complete opposition to each other. The Great Campaign to Save The Car has virtually nothing to do with environmental concern (I highly doubt that companies like Chevy and Ford honestly give a shit about the temperature in Panama) and virtually everything to do with keeping this cannibalistic civilization standing for as long as possible, profits being the main motive.
