05/17/2008: "Nutter hopes to stop the "staggering" recidivism rate"
Today, a newly released national report on the re-entry of ex-offenders should come in handy at Mayor Nutter's "Re-entry Summit" at Temple University Health System, where 300 people are gathering to address the problems of ex-offenders.
Recidivism is so overwhelming, the U.S. Justice Department found, that "two out of three inmates are rearrested within three years of being released from prison. Just over half are reincarcerated."
"We're focusing on decreasing the risks of performing another crime," Leaphart said.
