05/21/2008: "Hitler Slogan Lands Fire Brigade in Hot Water"
"Fast as Greyhounds, Tough as Leather, Hard as Krupp Steel." That's how Adolf Hitler described the Hitler Youth in 1935. Over the weekend, the slogan appeared on the backs of firemen in eastern Germany.
A volunteer fire brigade from a village in eastern Germany is in trouble after showing up to a local competition with an infamous motto of the Hitler youth on the backs of their polo shirts, written in Gothic script.
The eight members of the fire brigade from the village of Gross Gaglow were among hundreds of firemen from the southern Brandenburg region of eastern Germany to take part in a fire extinguishing competition in the town of Lübbenau on Saturday.
