08/06/2008: "Richard Dawkins: Muslim parents 'import creationism' into schools"

Prof Dawkins, a well-known atheist, also blamed the Government for accommodating religious views and allowing creationism to be taught in schools.

"Most devout Muslims are creationists so when you go to schools, there are a large number of children of Islamic parents who trot out what they have been taught," Prof Dawkins said in a Sunday newspaper interview.

"Teachers are bending over backwards to respect home prejudices that children have been brought up with. The Government could do more, but it doesn't want to because it is fanatical about multiculturalism and the need to respect the different traditions from which these children come."

"It seems as though teachers are terribly frightened of being thought racist. It's almost impossible to say anything against Islam in this country, because [if you do] you are accused of being racist or Islamophobic."

[ Well said Mr Dawkins! This is why pluralism is a failure and it will destroy scientific progress - especially that pertaining to evolutionary biology, history, geology and astronomy. We must stop this before it is too late. ]

The scientific progress I was particularly thinking of includes Darwin's discovery of evolution through natural selection versus divine creation and that the true age of the world is billions of years, not 6,000, that the Earth is a sphere that orbits the sun and so on. The world is vastly improved by such knowledge and the thought of regressing to the point where we are once again burned alive for such notions is dreadful.

I'd not place a great deal of confidence in Scientific "progress," which, combined with humanity and all it's faults, has ultimately produced a horrendously polluted and overpopulated world with whole species disappearing almost as fast as American financial solvency is (Through the Ian Malcom character in his Jurassic Park novel, Michael Crichton provided excellent commentary on this). As the overall quality of humans continues to drop like a rock, science is going to fall flat on it's amoral ass, along with the rotting, parasite "civilization" that it continues to support.
