08/27/2008: "No evidence of plot to kill Obama"
US authorities said Tuesday they had found no evidence of a plot to assassinate Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama following the arrest of three men and seizure of a weapons cache.
US Attorney Troy Eid told a press conference that following an exhaustive investigation, officials were satisfied that the arrested men were all drug abusers who did not pose a credible threat to Obama.
"It is a very serious federal crime to threaten a presidential candidate. In this case, however, there is insufficient evidence at this time to indicate a true threat, plot or conspiracy against Senator Obama."
[ It's a good thing they couldn't link those nut cases to any group in such a way as would serve to score a political point for the establishment and also an excuse to arrest dissidents. Just for the record, there's a high chance that Obama would be assassinated if he was going to win, or did win the election. This would be because he might tread on toes in a similar way to President Kennedy. And who would those behind such an assassination most like to be seen to have done the deed? The "far right" no doubt. And that is because they would prefer to kill two birds with one bullet. ]
