03/09/2009: "Film maker claims Sarkozy persecutes immigrants like Hitler persecuted Jews"

France's immigration minister criticized a film director on Monday for likening the situation of illegal immigrants in France today to that of Jews under the Nazi occupation during World War Two.

Director Philippe Lioret - whose film "Welcome" about illegal immigrants trying to reach Britain from northern France opens on Wednesday - has criticized a French law that makes it a crime to help illegal immigrants.

"To see that a decent guy can all of a sudden be charged and that he can go to prison is crazy. It feels like it's 1943 and we've hidden a Jew in the basement," Lioret told the regional newspaper La Voix du Nord last week.

[ Even the Daily Mail in the UK thinks Britain should stop being a "soft touch" for immigrants, and Sarkozy wouldn't have enacted any of these mild laws if he wasn't worried about people voting for the French NF if he didn't. ]

Indeed. Even "mild" is still a pretty exaggerated description of Sarkozy's stance on immigration reform.

Sarkozy just a few weeks ago was out in the media describing how it is of paramount importance for the French (that is, the real French people) need to miscegenate to ensure prosperity and success of the nation.

That doesn't sound like someone who has any sort of similarity to Hitler.

(And, of course, the author "forgets" that Sarkozy is a mixed Hungarian Jew himself)
