05/03/2009: "Colin Jordan dies aged 85"

Colin Jordan, who has died aged 85, occupied a niche at the extremity of British political life in the 1960s as founder of the National Socialist Movement and later as leader of the British Movement, propounding views to the Right of the National Front.

One tabloid labelled him Britain's most notorious Nazi.

Advocating the return of all Jews to Israel (or, when Israel was full, Madagascar) and the repatriation of all non-white immigrants, Jordan was portrayed as the godfather of British fascism. In 1962 he was jailed for inciting a riot in Trafalgar Square, and imprisoned again later the same year after being convicted of organising a neo-Nazi paramilitary group called Spearhead. His extreme views were subsidised by his one-time wife, Francoise Dior, of the French perfume and fashion empire and herself a committed fascist.
