06/15/2009: "Ex MP, Matthew Green, helps "travellers" to concrete over the British countryside"
As a parliamentary spokesman on planning matters, Matthew Green was keen to oppose the destruction of the countryside.
By January this year that had risen more than fourfold to 1,279. The total number of illegal sites - including those built on other people's land - soared by 1,166 to 3,680.
Travellers and gipsies buy cheap green-belt farmland and construct sites without planning permission, often using the cover of Bank Holiday weekends to lay hardcore and asphalt on fields in renowned beauty spots.
