Americans selling nuclear secrets

Edmonds, a 37-year-old former Turkish language translator, listened into hundreds of sensitive intercepted conversations while based at the agency.s Washington field office.

She says the FBI was investigating a Turkish and Israeli-run network that paid high-ranking American officials to steal nuclear weapons secrets. These were then sold on the international black market to countries such as Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

Lying as a way of life

The results, published in "The Social Psychology of Good and Evil," showed that college students lied at least once to 38 percent of the people they interacted with. Community members lied to 30 percent.

DePaulo also found that some types of people are more likely to lie:

Manipulative people will lie to get what they want.

People-pleasers tend to say what the other person wants to hear.

Extroverts "are more tuned into others, so they notice what other people want to hear, or they want to impress them," DePaulo says.

"In the abstract, it's very easy to say, 'Oh, we value honesty, and you should never lie,'" says DePaulo. But "sometimes in our real lives, our valuing of honesty clashes with something else we also value, like wanting to be gracious or kind or compassionate."

Racial divide defines view of opportunity

Two-thirds of African-Americans believe blacks face discrimination when applying for a job or buying or renting a house, yet more than half also agree . and nearly three-quarters of whites believe . that "blacks who have not gotten ahead in life are mainly responsible for their own situation." Blacks believe they face discrimination, yet the individual African-American is to blame for his or her failure to make it?

As exemplified by the civil rights movement and its minister leader King, there runs through African-American religious history a conviction that God stands with the dispossessed against the scourge of dehumanizing racism. Yet those who follow black church trends today will tell you that this prophetic tradition is giving way to something decidedly less idealistic: a prosperity gospel holding that God blesses individual believers with economic advancement.

Rule over the stupid by the very rich

The chief executive of Marks & Spencer believes the UK is fast becoming a very divided nation: the rich who live inside the M25 - and the rest.

Speaking earlier this month, Sir Stuart Rose said there was a widening gulf between the have-nots and the have-a-lots, which is now wider than he had seen in 35 years behind the counter of stores such as M&S, Burton and Dorothy Perkins. "I have never seen such a polarised UK economy," he said. "The rich are so very, very rich. The West End can't get enough diamonds. But the poor are getting poorer. Outside London it is a completely different economy."

Sexual selection decreases

The report, from the National Board of Health and Welfare, shows that people have more sexual partners than they did twenty years ago and that twice as many people sleep together on a first date. Despite the fact that people know about the risks, they do not appear to be taking greater care to protect themselves.

Young women in particular were more likely than 20 years ago to have multiple sexual partners. In 1989 the 13 percent of women aged 18-19 had had three or more sexual partners in the past year. In 2007 this figure was 26 percent, although the reports authors stressed that the number of people who responded to the survey was lower in 2007, making the figures less certain.

[ The more sex you have, the more you distance yourself from a unitive, loving, respectful future relationship. These women will end up in their 30s and 40s, alone and aging, and bitter, when they could have had healthy family lives. The modern tragedy continues! ]

Humankind self-destructing, UN warns belatedly

Among the major changes heralding this two-century-old man-made epoch:

* Vastly altered sediment erosion and deposition patterns.
* Major disturbances to the carbon cycle and global temperature.
* Wholesale changes in biology, from altered flowering times to new migration patterns.
* Acidification of the ocean, which threatens tiny marine life that forms the bottom of the food chain.

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged the world on Thursday to put the looming crisis over water shortages at the top of the global agenda this year and take action to prevent conflicts over scarce supplies.

The world's rush to embrace biofuels is causing a spike in the price of corn and other crops and could worsen water shortages and force poor communities off their land, a U.N. official said Wednesday.

We're in a dark age of ignorance

The enlightenment was a beautiful thing. People cast aside dogma and
authority. They started to think for themselves. Natural science
flourished. Understanding of the real world increased. The hegemony of
religion slowly declined. Real universities were created and eventually
democracy took hold. The modern world was born. Until recently we were
making good progress. So what went wrong?

The past 30 years or so have been an age of endarkenment. It has been a
period in which truth ceased to matter very much, and dogma and
irrationality became once more respectable.

To roughly quote Dr. Colquhoun, "Truth has become less important than
the sincere desire that something shoule be true." It sounds bad. How
much trouble are we really in?

Nuclear proliferation increasingly threatening

Nato must prepare to launch pre-emptive nuclear attacks to ward off the use of weapons of mass destruction by its enemies, a group of former senior military officials has warned.

"The risk of further proliferation is imminent and, with it, the danger that nuclear war fighting, albeit limited in scope, might become possible," the report said.

"The first use of nuclear weapons must remain in the quiver of escalation as the ultimate instrument to prevent the use of weapons of mass destruction."

Blackout of white voters in media

Being a black man, I don't mind talking about the nuances of black politics -- I've run three black newspapers, a black Web site and been the news editor of a national black magazine -- but I can also count. And to suggest that white voters are immaterial in South Carolina is nuts.

It has been so stunning that I can't even recall the last time I've seen journalists spend a lot of time interviewing whites. The stories have focused on black preachers, the tough choice facing black women, and whether young black voters come to the polls.

In some respects, there's a blackout when it comes to talking to white voters.

When reality is pointless, the young drink

Drinking to get drunk is starting at a young age, in England and Wales, prompting children not yet into their teens to become involved in violence, vandalism and sexual risk, according to a study published today.

The survey of deprived communities reveals a picture of widespread binge drinking among pre-teens and teenagers, frequently of over 20 units a week, with parents ignoring or even condoning the habit.

Jobs will kill you

The team conducted seven surveys over a 12-year period and found chronically stressed workers -- people determined to be under severe pressure in the first two of the surveys -- had a 68 percent higher risk of developing heart disease.

"This study adds to the evidence that the work stress-coronary heart disease association is causal in nature," the researchers wrote in the European Heart Journal.

Nature curbs dysfunctional societies

In 2006, nearly 9.7 million children died worldwide before their fifth birthdays, mostly from preventable causes such as diarrhea, malaria or malnutrition, the U.N. Children's Fund said in its annual report.

More than 26,000 children under 5 die each day on average.

Lying is part of nature's mathematics

The team at the Laboratory of Intelligent Systems at the Federal
Institute of Technology created the little experimental learning devices
to work in groups and hunt for "food" targets nearby while avoiding
"poison." Imagine their surprise when one generation of robots learned
to signal lies about the poison, sending opponents to their doom.

The little wheeled robots had neural circuitry with about 30 "genes"
that determine their behavior, and how much they react to light in the
environment. The food sources charged up the robots' batteries while the
poison drained them, and by using the genes of the most successful
feeders in 50 successive generations, the team was hoping to select the
fittest.

Three colonies of bots in the 50th generation learned to signal to other
robots in the group when then found food or poison. But the fourth
colony included lying cheats that signaled food when they found poison
and then calmly rolled over to the real food while other robots went to
their battery-death.

Low degree of fitness variable in races

The more fit you are, the longer you're likely to live, according to a large study of veterans that applies to black men as well as white men. Racial autonomy not reconciliation needed for black America

One of the worst aspects of the King legacy is that, thanks to him, no African-American today is allowed to bring up racism, even in the most objective fashion, without severe repercussions. You will be instantly labelled a radical, a Black Panther (a bad thing), or a Mau Mau (a very bad thing) who wants to kill the white man. King has eliminated the possibility of other black people speaking out, people with other philosophies, who do not necessarily want to hug racists. Obama can succeed only insofar as he makes it plain that, like the British trade unionist Bill Morris, he is “not the black candidate”, that he can be counted on neither to be a champion for, nor to defend the rights of, black people.

Our love for King notwithstanding, if we are honest we will concede that King built nothing, and taught us only how to take a beating. As Gandhi said: “I have admitted my mistake. I thought our struggle was based on non-violence, whereas in reality it was no more than passive resistance, which is essentially a weapon of the weak.”

It is time we all admitted our mistake. A black King did not redeem us. And neither will a black president.

Chinese argue for multiregional human origins

The well-preserved skull was found in the central Chinese province of Henan, and Chinese scientists say it could disprove the widely-held theory that Homo sapiens originated in Africa.

The majority of Chinese scientists share the multiregional theory of human origin, which says that humans evolved separately in different regions.

The opposite theory, the Out-of-Africa model, says that Homo sapiens originated in Africa, and that some prehistoric humans left the continent about 60,000 years ago. This theory is supported by the small number of older human fossils found in other regions as compared to on the African continent.

Schools re-segregating

It’s a trend that is occurring around the country and is even more pronounced than expected in the wake of court cases dismantling both mandated and voluntary integration programs, a new report says. The most segregated schools, according to the report, which documents desegregation trends, are in big cities of the Northeast and Midwest. The South and West—and rural areas and small towns generally—offer minority students a bit more diversity.

Suburbs of large cities, meanwhile, are becoming the new frontier: areas to which many minorities are moving.

These places still have a chance to remain diverse communities but are showing signs of replicating the segregation patterns of the cities themselves.

Ethnic groups prefer to breed within themselves

This paper presents an economic analysis of the intergenerational transmission of ethnic and religious traits through family socialization and marital segregation decisions. Frequency of intragroup marriage (homogamy), as well as socialization rates of religious and ethnic groups, depend on the group's share of the population: minority groups search more intensely for homogamous mates, and spend more resources to socialize their offspring. This pattern generally induces a dynamics of the distribution of ethnic and religious traits which converges to a culturally heterogeneous stationary population.

Racism claimed in case of trash collector killer

The fate of a black trash collector convicted of murdering a well-known white fashion writer now rests with the judge who heard the case, which aired live on In Session (then Court TV) last year.

Barnstable Superior Court Judge Gary Nickerson yesterday heard juror testimony in a rare public hearing to decide whether racial bias tainted the jury.s decision.

Judge Nickerson is facing unchartered legal territory as he weighs whether to grant a new trial to Christopher McCowen.

http://insession.blogs.cnn.com/2008/01/18/race-class-and-murder/

Investigators moved then to those who knew her in passing, such as handymen working in the area or friends of acquaintances. That's when they came to McCowen, who picked up Worthington's trash once a week.

At the time, McCowen was not on the top of their list, even though he had a record of convictions in Florida ranging from grand theft auto to trafficking stolen property and had at least three restraining orders issued against him in Massachusetts.

http://archive.capecodonline.com/special/worthingtontrial/thetactics22.htm

A swab taken from Worthington's right breast after her stabbing death revealed DNA from McCowen, according to Christine Lemire, a part-time supervisor at the Massachusetts State Police Crime Lab. Lemire testified about 23 samples of DNA she tested from Worthington's body and evidence at the scene, as well as 49 DNA samples gathered from other individuals.

A vaginal sample showed mostly Worthington's DNA, but also a potential so-called ''minor'' match for McCowen. That means that less of his DNA than Worthington's was found in the sample, but his was still a one-in-1.1 billion match.

Neither of those two swabs contained any DNA from Jeremy Frazier, who McCowen said fatally stabbed Worthington through the lung.

Semen taken from the blanket matched DNA from Tim Arnold, the former live-in boyfriend who discovered Worthington's body and was once a prime suspect in her murder.

The Aid Industry profits from useless projects

The aid industry faces a dilemma. On the one hand, countries are more likely to grow rich if their citizens are provided with some important basics, such as a legal system that works, or protection from corrupt officials. Such basics might seem the priority for aid money. On the other hand, it is much easier to measure success in simpler projects, such as building roads and laying pipes.

If development agencies focus on pouring concrete, they may be spending money on infrastructure that will never be used . and perhaps never even be built . because of corruption in the background. But if they focus on the broader stuff . democracy, corruption, human rights . they risk trying to do everything and achieving nothing. William Easterly, the World Bank.s most prominent apostate, argues that development agencies love big agendas because their contribution cannot be measured and found wanting. It is a bitterly cynical view, but that doesn.t mean he.s wrong.

Desire for "free" leads to greater control

Marketers long ago figured out the attractiveness of free. For decades companies have been playing tricks using free to lure naive customers. But recently, our obsession with free has given rise to a new phenomenon - where the customer is never asked to pay. How? Because the business makes their money on advertising. Marketers are happy to pay for access to customers, who in turn love not having to pay. So the web plays the glorious role of middle man. Are we heading into dangerous territory? The paths that we are taking lead to confused customers at best; and monopolistic practices at worst. A culture where consumers think that increasingly more and more services should be free is not healthy.

Sane commentary from a blogger

But I think there is something different this time around. The American Empire, the worldwide Pax Americana that defined the First World following WWII, is ending. We are as far in denial of this as Wiley Coyote is of gravity after he's run off the edge of a cliff, but has yet to fall.

My main long-term concern is with The Environment. But not in the usual way. i see the human species as inherently pestilential. We not only have explosive population growth, but a parasitic attitude toward every non-replaceable resource we can use.

The time scale I see is geological. And in the geological context, what humans are doing to both the earth and its plant and animal life is destructive and in the long term catastrophic. The Earth right now is being attacked by humans on a grand scale, and is being changed by it.

How appearance freedom opposes security

Citing Florida's recent plague of bank robberies -- which increased 40 percent in 2007 -- the industry group touted its "No Hats, No Hoods, No Sunglasses" program as a deterrent that has worked in other states because potential robbers are more easily identified when their heads or faces are not covered.

"Obviously, it's going to trigger some First Amendment issues and religious-freedom issues," said Ian Rheingold, executive director of the National Association of Consumer Advocates, a nonprofit based in Washington. "Surely the banks have more problems and better things to do with their time than worrying about what people are wearing."

In Missouri alone, bank robberies fell 47 percent from 2002 to 2005 after the policy was widely implemented, according to the bankers group.

This is an extremely atypical liberal argument. If you tell the typical liberal that the poor people are poor because they are born with bad genes, the liberal will get pissed at you. Yet this is exactly what Rawls is saying, that poor people are poor because of their genes.

Liberals, by denying that there are genetic differences in intelligence and other beneficial attributes, are destroying the most powerful argument in favor of distributive justice. Even worse, liberals have also denied equality of opportunity to smart people who have the misfortune of being born to lower class parents. Liberals see the smart prole kid as not worthy of special help, because he’s already doing so much better than the prole kids who aren’t reading at grade level. Liberals would rather waste money trying to get kids with below average intelligence to somehow magically become smart enough to attend college. Yet it’s the smart prole kid who is most in need of special help so he can achieve what he might if he were born to upper middle class parents.

Scientist mocks European-American disunity

Later, Kevorkian turned his attention to race and said plainly; "The whites don't unite."

"The whites, especially the old ones, they have petrified brains; their brainwashing is complete," Kevorkian explained. "You've got an Irishman, a German, a Greek, a Frenchman and they don't unite... they're wimps... There's no power in the unification of the whites. Who has the power in this country? Black people."

"Blacks can unite," Kevorkian explained. "Because of their common color" and "because they know what slavery is... Had they known about the 9th Amendment, history would have been different... The power of the blacks will lead you to act on the 9th Amendment."

[ Yet there's this other gem: ]

European Americans are often treated as a homogeneous group, but in fact form a structured population due to historical immigration of diverse source populations. Discerning the ancestry of European Americans genotyped in association studies is important in order to prevent false-positive or false-negative associations due to population stratification and to identify genetic variants whose contribution to disease risk differs across European ancestries. Here, we investigate empirical patterns of population structure in European Americans, analyzing 4,198 samples from four genome-wide association studies to show that components roughly corresponding to northwest European, southeast European, and Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry are the main sources of European American population structure. Building on this insight, we constructed a panel of 300 validated markers that are highly informative for distinguishing these ancestries. We demonstrate that this panel of markers can be used to correct for stratification in association studies that do not generate dense genotype data.

Police design snares to bring in more fines

Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano says the deployment of new photo radar or other speed enforcement technology on state highways is all about public safety. But her proposed state budget counts on the anticipated speeding fines to help erase a projected revenue shortfall.

The proposal, submitted to the Legislature late Friday, anticipates $120 million in revenue the first year, including $90 million in net income after expenses from the statewide effort. Even bigger dollar amounts are expected in future years.

Noose on cover elicits negative reaction

The editor of Golfweek magazine said he was overwhelmed by negative reaction to the photo of a noose on the cover of this week's issue, illustrating a story about the suspension of a Golf Channel anchor for using the word "lynch" in an on-air discussion about how to beat Tiger Woods.

Kelly Tilghman was suspended for two weeks because of comments she made during the second round of the Mercedes-Benz Championship, when she and analyst Nick Faldo were discussing young challengers to Woods.

Faldo suggested that "to take Tiger on, maybe they should just gang up (on him) for a while."

Multiculturalism leads to fragmentation, paranoia

Following the controversy started by the Bishop of Rochester, who said that some Muslim enclaves were “no-go areas” for Christians, it all seems to suggest a country that is becoming increasingly fragmented; a patchwork of rigidly delineated little pockets of race and religion, knots of unyielding humanity who just can’t rub along with each other.

Desk-bound jobs harm productivity, erase minds

Britain's deskbound workforce is becoming increasingly uncommunicative and unhealthy with mobile technology an answer to the problem, according to a new study.

Performance consulting firm HB Maynard said forcing end-users to get out their chairs and talk to people could lift depression and motivate people to higher levels of productivity.

Modern deskbound, immobilised workers are less healthy, more prone to injury and less motivated, according to the study. Flynn effect an artifact of earlier maturation

A possible explanation for the increase in IQ scores is that children today mature sooner, both physically and mentally, than children did decades ago (Sarich, 1999). Today’s children score higher, not because their real intelligence has increased, but because their brains are more mature. A 10 year old today has a brain that has grown faster and has more neural connections than the brain of a 10 year old who lived, say, 50 years ago. Because today’s 10 year olds have brains that, perhaps, 12 year olds had 50 years ago, they do better on an IQ test taken by 10 year olds 50 years ago. Psychologists think they are comparing identical groups of children – 10 year olds to 10 year olds, but they are actually comparing apples and oranges – 10 year old brains to 12 year old brains. Real intelligence has not increased, children just acquire it sooner, and fully mature people today may actually be less intelligent than fully mature people were decades ago.

[ So world IQ is declining, not rising. Awesome. ]

Students lose when diversity is main focus

A good education requires balance. Students should learn to appreciate a variety of cultures, sure, but they also need to know how to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Judging from the courses that the nation's leading education colleges offer, however, balance isn't a goal. The schools place far more emphasis on the political and social ends of education than on the fundamentals.

On the supply side, ed-school professors are a self-perpetuating clique, and their commitment to multiculturalism and diversity produces a near-uniformity of approach. Professors control entry into their ranks by determining who will receive the doctoral credential, deciding which doctoral graduates get hired, and then selecting which faculty will receive tenure. Lone activist points out flaws of multicultural state

On October 19, the parent arrived at the school to check on the status of his transfer request when he spotted a large gang of black kids attacking his son on the playground. The father ran onto the playground to break up the assault. The school, which had refused to do anything about the recurring violence, had the father arrested for trespassing.

The incident sparked a lone activist to distribute hundreds of flyers. The flyer describes how the activist was a student at the school when busing first ruined it and how he himself was verbally and physically abused by blacks on a daily basis. The flyer urged white people to united and speak out against black on white violence.

The reaction from school officials was to deny the problem, the reaction from police was to threaten the man by insinuating he would be prosecuted for a hate crime! The extreme left-wing Anti-Defamation league publicly attacked the flyer and called it an “attack on the community.” I have been in contact with this gentlemen, but he does not want his name used to avoid harassment from the police.

However, the Rockaway daily newspaper, The Wave, printed the flyer at the top of the front page. They also interviewed the father of another student who stated that it was all true and that his son had also been victimized by black thugs. “What they do to my son breaks my heart,” said the father.

Minority votes determine American elections, promote racism

You'll hear a lot about the Hispanic vote leading up to "Super Duper Tuesday" on February 5. That's when presidential primaries occur in 23 states, several with large Hispanic populations.

Hillary Clinton got off to a rocky start. While chatting with Hispanic voters in a Mexican restaurant in Las Vegas, Nevada, last week, she stretched for an analogy to explain how all Americans are connected and their problems interconnected despite the fact that "we treat them as though one is guacamole and one is chips."

In this election, Republicans will likely take a thumping since many Hispanics blame them for turning the immigration debate into a culture clash and giving it an anti-Hispanic flavor.

College requires ALL views be tolerated, causes riots

How great species die out

Now the disease theory has gotten another boost, in the form of a book titled What Bugged the Dinosaurs, from the Princeton University Press. Authors George and Roberta Poinar (George is a zoologist at Oregon State University and a former World Health Organization consultant on infectious disease) specialize in ancient insects preserved in amber (a key plot element in the movie Jurassic Park) and also in fossilized dinosaur poop. Among other things in their lode, they've found ticks, nematodes, biting flies and all sorts of other nasties, including intestinal parasites, dating back to the Cretaceous period. From some of the insects, the Poinars have extracted microbes that cause leishmania and malaria — evidently new pathogens back then, against which dinosaurs wouldn't have had much resistance.

Smartest African-Americans wanted African National Socialism

It is less well known that blacks also have a long history of separatist and “back-to-Africa” movements. Some of these were attempts to escape slavery or second-class citizenship, but others were expressions of black pride and racial nationalism. What they all had in common was the understanding that multi-racialism does not work, and that the best hope for blacks was that they be free to shape their own destiny.

Although Marcus Garvey (1887–1940) was the best known and most influential of the black separatists, several lesser-known men were actually more successful—sometimes remarkably so—in helping American blacks move to Africa or establish black commun- ities in the United States. "Flynn Effect" is wrong

Scores on cognitive tests have been very widely reported to have increased through the decades of the last century, a generational phenomenon termed the ‘Flynn Effect’ since it was most comprehensively documented by James Flynn in the 1980's. There has, however, been very little evidence concerning any continuity of the effect specifically into the present century. We here report data from a population, namely young adult males in Denmark, showing that whereas there were modest increases between 1988 and 1998 in scores on a battery of four cognitive tests–these constituting a diminishing continuation of a trend documented back to the late 1950's–scores on all four tests declined between 1998 and 2003/2004. For two of the tests, levels fell to below those of 1988. Across all tests, the decrease in the 5/6 year period corresponds to approximately 1.5 IQ points, very close to the net gain between 1988 and 1998. The declines between 1998 and 2003/4 appeared amongst both men pursuing higher academic education and those not doing so.

World's IQ declining

Dysgenic fertility means that there is a negative correlation between intelligence and number of children. Its presence during the last century has been demonstrated in several countries. We show here that there is dysgenic fertility in the world population quantified by a correlation of − 0.73 between IQ and fertility across nations. It is estimated that the effect of this has been a decline in the world's genotypic IQ of 0.86 IQ points for the years 1950–2000. A further decline of 1.28 IQ points in the world's genotypic IQ is projected for the years 2000–2050. In the period 1950–2000 this decline has been compensated for by a rise in phenotypic intelligence known as the Flynn Effect, but recent studies in four economically developed countries have found that this has now ceased or gone into reverse. It seems probable that this “negative Flynn Effect” will spread to economically developing countries and the whole world will move into a period of declining genotypic and phenotypic intelligence. It is possible that “the new eugenics” of biotechnology may evolve to counteract dysgenic fertility.

Destruction of family leads to third world ethics

What Amneus means by matriarchy is a society in which paternity is meaningless, children belong solely to the mother and women are not bound to husbands. This is how primitive societies operated, and as Amneus demonstrates, this is *why* they were primitive; there was no motivation for men to be stable or productive.

Amneus shows that the pathological behavior of men in these matriarchal societies is pretty much the same as that of an increasing number of men in America (and Europe): without the prospect of paternity to anchor them, they become violent and idle, refusing to work to support women who will not be faithful to them or children they are not allowed to help raise, or who might not even be their own.

Research conducted late last year by The Associated Press found that 2,570 educators nationwide had their teaching credentials revoked or otherwise sanctioned from 2001-05 over allegations of sexual misconduct.

At least 200 Texas teachers have active sanctions on their certifications for sexual misconduct that occurred between 2001 and 2005, according to data provided by the Texas Education Agency.

2. Make women sexually aggressive
3. Neutralize men
4. Make everyone neurotic

"Progress" requires we be neurotic, depressed

Since my own nature hovers between neurotic and paranoid, I've developed the habit of mentally listing things that make me optimistic about the future. I do it every day, while I'm driving, making the bed, pretending to write.

..

Even so, there has never been a time or place where it was easier to be female than in today's developed world. Women have gained more freedom in the past 50 years than in all of recorded history. That's especially good because as society empowers women, women are empowering society. The fact that the weaker sex is growing stronger may just save the world.

..

That people can clash at the level of basic values but tolerate one another's differences gives me enormous hope for the future. For centuries, tolerance has slowly been gaining ground, absolutism losing it. To me that makes even these frightening times a bit less forbidding.

..

At one point, I heard a limo driver unleash a stream of such vicious racism that I felt physically ill with shame, until I started discussing this experience with other South Africans of all races. Astonishingly, they met horrific prejudice with neither fear nor hatred but with deep, improbable, battle-scarred love and optimism. They refused to relinquish hope.

..

Asian philosophical concepts have been filtering across the Pacific so long that they no longer sound nonsensical. Jews, Christians, Muslims, and atheists are learning yoga and meditation, dabbling in tai chi and feng shui. This blend of East and West is bringing out the best of both cultures, and I'm delighted to be watching it.

[ The psychology of the modern liberal, in a nutshell: life is awful, but at least we have these uplifting destructions of our differences, so we can suffer together. She also mentions her favorite donuts. ]

Inter-ethnic brain differences proven

Different variations in the same gene influence how well different ethnic groups, and people within the same ethnic group, respond to various antipsychotic medications, report NIMH-funded researchers.

* Patients of African ancestry with a certain variation responded better to the medication perphenazine than to the newer medications quetiapine and ziprasidone.
* Variations in the gene predicted how well patients of European ancestry responded to the newer medication risperidone.

The same genetic variations did not have the same predictive value for ziprasidone in European-ancestry patients.

[ These are physical differences in brain chemistry. ]

Job stress will kill you

Sixty percent of workers said they have high levels of stress with symptoms of extreme fatigue and feeling out of control. Another 33 percent said they have constant but manageable stress.

Fifty-nine percent of workers surveyed by CareerBuilder.com admit to experiencing road rage while traveling to and from work. With 128 million commuters in the United States that's a lot of road rage. It seems your commute is only going to get worse according to "Commuting in America III" by Alan Pisarski published by the Transportation Research Board. The average national travel times grew to 25.5 minutes in 2000, up from 22.4 in 1990 and 21.7 in 1980. That time is increasing even though more people are leaving for work between 5 a.m. and 6:30 a.m to beat rush hour.

[ Our press took a break from articles about How Stress Will Kill You to mention that workplaces cause stress. We could always have a better design for our workplaces... but that's so difficult, we'd have to get up off the sofa or smth. ]

Wrong word gets news anchor fired

Golf Channel Wednesday night announced that it suspended its lead anchor, Kelly Tilghman, for two weeks in the wake of comments she made last week that the channel deemed "hurtful and grossly inappropriate."

Tilghman was bantering with analyst Nick Faldo Friday after the second round of the Mercedes-Benz Championship when she suggested one way for young players to deal with the challenge posed by Tiger Woods would be to "lynch him in a back alley."

[ Is "lynching" copyright to black people? It was a common punishment for whites who were rapists or murderers as well, when the law moved too slowly. This person obvious did not intend a racial insult because, among whites, we can talk about lynching each other all day. The irony is that she probably was actually colorblind and applied this to T. Woods unintentionally, as she would've with a white person. ]

Different cultures make different brains

People from different cultures use their brains differently to solve the same visual perceptual tasks, researchers report in the first brain imaging study of its kind. Psychological research has established that American culture, which values the individual, emphasizes the independence of objects from their contexts, while East Asian societies emphasize the collective and the contextual interdependence of objects. Behavioral studies have shown that these cultural differences can influence memory and even perception. But are they reflected in brain activity patterns?

Black voters provide powerful political swing

In beauty shops, churches and living rooms, organizers for Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton are in a fierce competition for the support of black voters in the upcoming first-in-the-South presidential primary.

Obama's campaign is counting on blacks who traditionally make up half of the Democratic primary voters here to deliver the state to him on Jan. 26, a victory that he hopes will help fuel momentum going into the "Mega Tuesday" voting in 22 states 10 days later. But he'll have to fend off Clinton, who comes with one of the most beloved political surnames in the black community.

Fascism was leftist, argues scholar

In the book, Goldberg attempts to convince readers that six decades of conventional wisdom that have placed Italy's Benito Mussolini, Germany's Adolf Hitler and fascism on the right side of the ideological spectrum are wrong, and that fascism is really a phenomenon of the left. Goldberg also attributes fascist rhetoric and tactics to Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and describes the New Deal's descendants, modern American liberals, as carriers of this liberal-fascist DNA. In a sense, "We're All Fascists Now," as Goldberg puts it in one of his chapter titles. Salon spoke with Goldberg by phone.

Originally being a fascist meant you were a right-wing socialist, and the problem is that we've incorporated these European understandings of things and then just dropped the socialist. In the American context fascists get called right-wingers even though there is almost no prominent fascist leader -- starting with Mussolini and Hitler -- who if you actually went about and looked at their economic programs, or to a certain extent their social program, where you wouldn't locate most if not all of those ideas on the ideological left in the American context.

[ Fascism is not National Socialism, although the two share many ideas. However, he has a point: right-wing movements are leftist movements with a traditionalist understanding of the need for aristocracy, natural selection, and struggle. We're all leftists in what we desire: fairness. We however are "rightists" in that we recognize the Crowdist methods of the left are failure. ]

New generations demand saner workplaces

"Millennials are coming in with high expectations and are disillusioned about the reality of a work place. They feel they should be rewarded and start at the top, when we all know you have to work your way up. They have been raised to be rewarded often and when you get into the workforce those rules change a bit," Harrington says.

But Millennials' ideas also have a positive influence on work environments. For instance, they expect their employer to be socially responsible and take part in community or philanthropic ventures, which is a good thing, Harrington says.

[ The "philanthropy" is a surrogate for a saner form of government, but the rest is true. Intelligence is nto rewarded, but slavish devotion is. Leaders at most jobs are terrible. Change helps everyone except the incompetent, and do we want to breed more of them? LOL NO ]

Jewish leaders outraged over Gandhi comments

The grandson of iconic peace activist Mohandas Gandhi has stirred a national controversy by writing on The Washington Post Web site that Jews "overplay" the Holocaust.

Arun Gandhi, a Brighton resident and founder of the M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence, based at the University of Rochester, on Monday wrote, "Jewish identity in the past has been locked into the Holocaust experience — a German burden that the Jews have not been able to shed. It is a very good example of (how) a community can overplay a historic experience to the point that it begins to repulse friends."

Larry Fine, executive director of the Jewish Federation of Rochester, called Gandhi's statements "reprehensible."

[ He's right. Jews need National Socialism for Jews. They won't get that by playing the pity card. They need to stand up for their rights, and get all Jews into Israel, because they're safe nowhere else. The Holocaust wasn't unique; it's the norm rather than the exception. Three types of internet users

I. The inquisitive reader. Most people who see this message will be this type. They perceive a lack of solutions elsewhere, and want to try out CORRUPTish ideas, so they read more. I have no problems with this type of person.

II. The shape-shifter. This person wants to have power through being seen (socially) as having taken a radical course, or a right course, or simply, a course, at a time when most people are too "busy" to do anything but go to work/school, play xbox and chat on the internet for six hours before sleep. This person assumes the guise of a fanboy, but does not want to change anything about his or her life. They do nothing to advance CORRUPT or its ideas, but will always be the "center of attention" on a forum.

III. The contrarian. Another form of (II), this person instead tries to gain power by coming to a forum which has a dominant idea, and preaching against that dominant idea. They want to appear as martyrs to what's right. They do nothing to advance the CORRUPT agenda, or do any other.

Types II and III are hipsters. With the appearance of function, but without function, they take way more time than is necessary. Their whole goal is to leech our energy for their own flailing egos.

[ This is why little happens from internet political organizations: most of the people are there to be seen, not do anything. LOL ]

Scientific record shows Watson was right

Human races, like dog 'breeds', are defined in the biological context by shared ancestry, not by single appearance traits. With ancestry you can predict many genes and many traits, but with single genes or single traits, you can not predict many other genes or traits. Which is why you can still easily identify the ancestry of the depigmented individuals in the above picture. Population ancestry predicts the sum patterns of one's genotype and phenotypical traits (e.g. general racial appearance) while any single variable - in this case, skin color - does not.

Denial of this fact was dubbed Lewontin's Fallacy (PDF) by British geneticist A.W.F. Edwards. 'Skin color' is a false and intentionally misleading straw-definition of race, that dishonorable public scientists such as Sternberg and Venter use to manufacture consent for their ideological viewpoints about human equality.
...
One thing, though, was conspicuously missing from this whole irritating denouement: any semblance of factual refutation. There is good reason for this: everything Watson got in trouble for saying was entirely correct!

[ Watson knew what he was talking about. The real question is: how do we use this data? Africa would be better off under ethnic nationalism, as would African-Americans, so National Socialism is a clear winner here. ]

Race, IQ and genetics: a socially unacceptable topic

No concept threatens the state religion of diversity more than innate group difference. Take the wattage generated by every political controversy in the United States – abortion, war, homosexuality – add it up and multiply by ten. You still wouldn’t have anything close to the shock power of the idea that racial and ethnic groups – and sexes – think and behave differently not entirely because of “culture” but partly, or largely, DNA.

It has been more than a decade since Charles Murray and Richard Herrnstein wrote The Bell Curve, which laid out the data on racial IQ differences, and how they are, in all likelihood, mostly inherited. To those who came to accept that information, the impenetrable resistance to the findings by the rest of the world is baffling. The statistics are so irrefutable – and so observable at work in the world – yet so determinedly ignored in the officially-sanctioned discussions of the issues. It’s like a society-wide remake of The Emperor’s New Clothes.

[ Nationalism should exist for other reasons than the above. The article hints at but doesn't flesh out the idea that variation within races, including sub-divisions like historical nationality or ethno-linguistic identity, are also important, as are social caste roles. The idea behind nationalism is not to be mean to the less favored ethnic groups, but to separate ethnic groups so each can find its own highest optimal goals. ]

World intelligence in decline

[ Not surprising. ]

Ethnic pain management study shows false bias

In summary, these researchers looked at 375,000 emergency department visits over a period of 13 years. Of those visits, opioid prescribing was more likely for pain-related visits made by whites (31%) than by blacks (23%), Hispanics (24%), or Asians/others (28%). White patients in their study tended to be older, but they didn’t release that demographic data. Overall, though, the rate at which patients received some form of analgesic (narcotic and non-narcotic combined) was almost identical between the study groups.

Using this data, the researchers come to a conclusion that “The presence of differential opioid prescribing by race/ethnicity throughout the study period suggests that disparities in pain management persist in the emergency department.”

Wait a minute. Your study didn’t show anything about pain management. Your study showed a trend in lesser prescription of narcotics in non-whites. That’s it. Where does “pain management” come into play in all of this? Reminds me of the drug seeker “pain control = narcotic” mindset.
