The United States has decided to boycott an upcoming UN conference on racism unless its final document is changed to drop all references to Israel.

The Conference Against Racism, to be held in Geneva in April, is a follow-up to the conference held in the South African town of Durban in 2001.

On Friday, a US delegation taking part in the preparatory talks in Geneva, said the draft resolution was unacceptable.

Acting legend Clint Eastwood , 79, apparently believes that political correctness has rendered modern society humourless, for he accuses younger generations of spending too much time trying to avoid being offensive.

The Dirty Harry star insists that he should be able to tell harmless jokes about nationality without fearing that people may brand him "a racist".

"People have lost their sense of humour. In former times we constantly made jokes about different races. You can only tell them today with one hand over your mouth or you will be insulted as a racist," the Daily Express quoted him as saying.

Wiesel, whose charitable foundation was wiped out by Madoff, has until now mostly kept quiet about the alleged $50 billion Ponzi scheme. But today, the Holocaust survivor and Nobel Peace Prize recipient spoke passionately about his betrayal by Madoff, whom he referred to variously as "a crook, a thief, a scoundrel," as well as a "swindler" and "evil."

Wiesel acknowledged that in addition to having lost his foundation's assets, he lost his personal wealth to Madoff. "All of a sudden, everything we have done in forty years - literally, my books, my lectures, my university salary, everything - was gone," he said during a panel discussion hosted by Conde Nast Portfolio.

As the sad news breaks that another three British soldiers have been killed in the Tory and Labour-supported illegal war in Afghanistan, intelligence briefings have confirmed that Muslims from Britain are fighting alongside the Taliban. According to the briefings, at least 4000 Muslims from Britain have gone to Afghanistan via Pakistan. Their Midlands and Yorkshire accents have been detected on radio intercepts. The news comes hot on the heels of the revelation that Muslims in Britain are responsible for the construction of trigger mechanisms for roadside bombs - just like the one which killed the three British soldiers who died yesterday. Senior military sources have described the situation as that of a "surreal mini-civil war" in Helmand Province.

[ This proxy civil war makes civil war in the UK itself all the more plausible a scenario in the near future. Those 4000 would be likely fight to take parts of Britain for Islam, and many more who don't go to Afghanistan to fight British troops would do so if there was a war in the UK. ]

A founding member of a left-wing terrorist group turned neo-Nazi was convicted Wednesday in Munich of Holocaust denial and sentenced to six years in prison after a judge accused him of using the courtroom to spread his message of hate.

Horst Mahler - a founder of the Red Army Faction in 1970 - was convicted of incitement for posting videos denying the Holocaust on the Internet and distributing CDs promoting anti-Jewish hatred and violence. Denial of the Nazi Holocaust is a crime in Germany.

Rieder sentenced Mahler to one year above the maximum recommended five years in prison, saying he is "completely unrepentant and totally unteachable."

"It was as if these people have had to die again," Rieder said. "Therefore, the Horst Mahler show has now ended."

A thunderous, coordinated assault against one of President Obama's intelligence picks is now underway. It started in a few right-wing blogs, migrated to semi-official mouthpieces like the Jewish Telegraph Agency, and today it reached the op-ed pages of the Wall Street Journal, in the form of the scurrilous piece by Gabriel Schoenfeld, a resident scholar at some outfit called "the Witherspoon Institute."

The target is Charles ("Chas") Freeman, the former US ambassador to Saudi Arabia, former top Defense Department official during the Reagan administration, and president of the Middle East Policy Council, whose wide-ranging experience stretches from the Middle East to China. Freeman is slated to become chairman of the National Intelligence Council (NIC), the arm of Admiral Dennis Blair's Office of the Director of National Intelligence. The NIC is the body that includes a host of analysts called national intelligence officers who are responsible for culling intel from sixteen US agencies and compiling them into so-called National Intelligence Estimates. It's a critical job, since NIE's - often released in public versions - can have enormous political and policy impact. Cases in point: the infamous 2002 Iraq NIE on weapons of mass destruction and the 2007 NIE on Iran that revealed that Tehran had halted its work on nuclear weapons.

If the campaign by the neocons, friends of the Israeli far right, and their allies against Freeman succeeds, it will have enormous repercussions. If the White House caves in to their pressure, it will signal that President Obama's even-handedness in the Arab-Israeli dispute can't be trusted. Because if Obama can't defend his own appointee against criticism from a discredited, fringe movement like the neoconservatives, how can the Arabs expect Obama to be able to stand up to Israel's next prime minister, Bibi Netanyahu?

Sergey Shoigu, the head of Russia's EMERCOM, put forward a suggestion to pass the law that would stipulate criminal responsibility for rejecting USSR's victory in the Great Patriotic War, Itar-Tass news agency reports.

"I believe that our parliament needs to pass the law that would stipulate criminal responsibility for those denying the victory of the USSR in the Great Patriotic War," Shoigu said.

The minister stressed out that there was a number of countries on the post-Soviet space that reject both the results of the Great Patriotic War and the deeds of the Soviet nation in it. The law, the official added, would allow to protect Russia's history.

Every day we have the opportunity to read the articles, opinions and news analysis from one group of the American people, in which they more or less express their will in sometimes, very confusing way. Many of them do not know historical facts about their own country, not to mention history of other countries.

Sometimes, they behave like the world did not existed before formation of the US; like Americans felt out from the sky in 18th the century; and everything good that happened in the world, happened because of the United States. Many of these Americans publicly criticize other countries and nations, accusing them of injustice, genocide, the devaluation of human rights, racism, war crimes, among others. However, they seam to forget their own history, therefore, it pertinent to remind them about few very interesting things concerning US history.

Jade Goody's story is undeniably a tragic and gripping one; but how extraordinarily inverted our values have become when she is treated like some modern-day Joan of Arc staring death in the face, while another young woman has bile poured upon her for the wicked sin of intelligence.

Surveys were completed by 711 ninth-grade students at three large U.S. urban high schools. The participants were exposed to more than 14 hours each week of lyrics describing degrading sex. About one-third said they had previously been sexually active.

The study, scheduled to be published in the April issue of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, says those with the most exposure to the lyrics describing degrading sex were more than twice as likely to have had sexual intercourse, compared to those with the least exposure.

The relationship between exposure to lyrics describing degrading sex and sexual experience held equally for both young men and women.

Sir Ken Macdonald said that Britain's system for regulating markets and prosecuting City crimes had completely broken down.

Sir Ken, who served as Director of Public Prosecutions between 2003 and 2008, said: 'If you mug someone in the street and you are caught, the chances are that you will go to prison.

'In recent years, mugging someone out of their savings or their pension would probably earn you a yacht.'

[ It's great that the former DPP has been so outspoken on this matter. However the only people who will adequately punish the banksters in the UK is the BNP. Perhaps he realises this now. It is regrettable that people have to be hurt in their pockets before they will back those who have long been offering a solution to so many of the nation's problems. ]

A former minister has warned that the UK's main parties are "complacent" about the British National Party, after the BNP won a local election.

Labour MP Peter Hain told the BBC that Labour's own supporters were being targeted by the far-right.

He said the government needed to make sure local, rather than foreign, workers were prioritised for jobs.

Mr Hain was speaking after the BNP won a seat at a by-election for Sevenoaks Council in Kent.

[ Compare this with an entry I posted earlier today where Britain's new European commissioner warns that it is vital to side with foreign workers and not do as the BNP would! These politicians are in quite a panic and don't know what to do! I smell victory for British Nationalism. Hain should flee back to Zimbabwe before it's too late. Politicians must start defending foreign workers to prevent extremist parties gaining sway during the recession, Britain's new European commissioner says today, in what will be seen as a veiled warning to the British government not to whip up nationalist sentiment.

Lady Ashton, who was until last autumn leader of the Lords under Gordon Brown, acknowledged in an interview with the Observer that there was a risk of significant advances in this spring's European elections for extremists in the present economic climate. She said mainstream politicians must be careful not to fan the flames: "In any kind of economic downturn, it is incumbent on us all to be putting across exactly the same message about the value and importance of having... diversity in communities; about the value and benefit of people from different countries coming and creating wealth.

"There are reasons we have to support that and not to get trapped into what the extremists would like, which would be to take their simplistic approach and fit it into a very complicated situation. So I hope that people will just reject as nonsense the idea that the solution lies in some kind of xenophobic attitude to people who live, work, study or travel in our country, because they bring the economy far more than they take out.

Soros said the turbulence is actually more severe than during the Great Depression, comparing the current situation to the demise of the Soviet Union.

Police are to scrap controversial race 'diversity' targets that made it harder for white men to win jobs.

The decision could end the positive discrimination which has seen ethnic minority applicants selected where white rivals were at least as well qualified.

Gloucestershire Police even went to the extent of 'deselecting' more than 100 potential recruits purely because they were white.

The force later admitted it had acted unlawfully.

A win for the British National Party yesterday sent a tremor through Labour amid growing fears the recession is driving angry voters into the arms of extremist parties.

The far-Right party seized a Labour seat in a district council by-election in Sevenoaks, Kent, leading some to warn it could make significant advances in the local and European elections to be held in June.

The town is a Tory stronghold at Westminster. Local politicians had previously dismissed the chances of a BNP breakthrough. But the shock result will be seen as evidence that Gordon Brown's pledge to secure 'British jobs for British workers' has backfired by encouraging nationalism.

I have to admit, I was initially slightly surprised to see how little concern on the antiracist left the spectacle of a senior British diplomat, arrested for a "fucking Jews" rant, had engendered. While it is important to note that Laxton denies making any antisemitic remark, it isn't as if antiracist organisations normally shy away from responding to complaints about public servants. For example, on the day following the publication of the story, Unite Against Fascism managed to organise a rally against a teacher who was a British National party member. But then, I shouldn't have been surprised. The last couple of months has seen the worst year on record for antisemitic incidents in the United Kingdom. Yet Unite Against Fascism has had nothing to say about that, either.

The problem, I think, is this. Although opposition to racism is now an article of faith for all mainstream political parties, the left has been the driving force in those organisations that set the antiracist agenda. There is a part of the left that is very comfortable condemning historical racism against Jews, at the hands of Nazis, back in the 1940s. It is, however, ambivalent when it comes to contemporary antisemitism: particularly when it can be "contextualised" within the Israel/Palestine conflict.

This state of affairs is, quite frankly, terrifying. As others are warning here, there is every reason to believe that the defining themes of the present economic downturn will be xenophobic, anti-immigrant and racist politics. As conspiracy theories depicting Jews as controllers of the financial markets proliferate, antisemitism will undoubtedly also be part of that mix. Support for fascist parties tends to grow during crises, and we need a strong defence against that politics, with solidarity between and support from all parts of British society. However, with its sectarianism, silence on antisemitism and blindness to Islamist Jew-hatred, Unite Against Fascism just isn't up to the job.

[ The author wants those "at the political centre" to do this reclaiming of antiracism. Where would that leave the Left at all? Where are the Left going? They concentrate, in Europe, on opposing ethno nationalist parties, but now they are adding opposing Zionism and Jews to that. Meanwhile nationalist parties are in many cases unwilling to criticise Jews, not least because hate speech laws have forced this position. The Left might end up becoming ideologically closer to the position of the "nazis" they claim to detest! Especially if all the Jews run to "the centre" taking the the anti-racism along with them... ]

A schoolgirl suffered first degree burns after just 19 minutes in an unmanned tanning salon.

Kirsty McRae, 14, ended up on a drip in hospital with burns to 70 per cent of her skin.

She said: 'I was feeling pale and just wanted a tan - I had no idea they were so dangerous.

To test this, they ran a group of white volunteers through a series of computer-based mental exercises that are so challenging that they temporarily deplete the cognitive reserves needed for discipline. Once they had the volunteers in this compromised state of mind, they put them (and others not so depleted) into a social situation with the potential for racial tension - they met with either a white or black interviewer and discussed racial diversity. Afterward, the volunteers rated the interaction for comfort, awkwardness, and enjoyment. In addition, independent judges - both black and white - analyzed the five-minute interactions, commenting on how cautious the volunteers were, how direct in their answers - and how racially prejudiced.

As reported in Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for Psychological Science, those who were mentally depleted - that is, those lacking discipline and self-control - found talking about race with a black interviewer much more enjoyable than did those with their self-control intact. That's presumably because they weren't working so hard at monitoring and curbing what they said. What's more, independent black observers found that the powerless volunteers were much more direct and authentic in conversation. And perhaps most striking, blacks saw the less inhibited whites as less prejudiced against blacks. In other words, relinquishing power over oneself appears to thwart over-thinking and "liberate" people for more authentic relationships.

No one actually was forced to segregate, but some students didn't agree that the exercise was a good way to make a point.

Albright senior Marc C. Simmons, who's black, said he would rather have seen organizers promote unity by asking people of different races or affiliations to sit together.

"A lot of times, people sit in their cliques," Simmons said, referring to groups of the same race or the same fraternity, for example.

New Brunswick's education minister has ordered the cancellation of a school assignment that asked children which lives they would save if they had to choose among different ethnic groups.

Kelly Lamrock's move came after outrage was expressed by a mother at the school.

"I can't mince words," Lamrock said. "It is unacceptable in every way. Whatever the intent was, it invites and encourages defining people by stereotypes. It needs to stop."

The students had three spaces in a rocket ship and they had to decide which person they would save among the following: an Acadian francophone, a Chinese person, a black African, an English person and an aboriginal person.

Non-UK born workers now account for one in seven jobs after more than 1.8 million foreigners were added to the UK labour force over the last decade.

Two thirds of those have come from outside the EU, making a mockery of the Government's claims that a cap on immigration will be ineffective because the majority of workers come from within the Union, taking advantage of free movement.

It comes as separate research found Britain has taken in up to four times as many workers from Europe as there are Britons working in the EU.

People used to feel, beyond making a living for themselves, that they were working to make their nation great, but now their effort is only strengthening corporate power and people from around the world are played off against each other to lower wages. Facial traits vary among humans, but do tend to group by population. For example, in general, West Africans have wider faces than Europeans and Europeans have longer faces than West Africans.

From their DNA profiles, Shriver could determine the admixture percentages of each individual, how much of their genetic make up came from each group. He could then compare the genetically determined admixture to the facial feature differences and determine the relative differences from the parental populations.

"This type of study, done on admixed populations shows that each person is a composite of their ancestors and that the range of facial features is a continuum," says Shriver.

Shriver found that there was a very strong statistical correlation between the amounts of admixture and the facial traits.

The revival of Americanism on the left is as unexpected as was Obama's victory itself. Since liberals turned against the war in Vietnam 40 years ago, they have struggled to prove that they love their country even while opposing most of the policies of its government. Some abandoned the effort altogether, preferring to don a fresh identity as global citizens. The philosopher Martha Nussbaum argued in 1994 that patriotism is "morally dangerous" because it encourages Americans to focus narrowly on their own concerns and to minimize or disregard those of people in other lands. Meanwhile, conservatives led by Ronald Reagan defined patriotism as the need to stand tall against one's enemies and equated liberty with low taxes and a lightly regulated market. From the invasion of Cambodia to the invasion of Iraq, war protesters pleaded, "Peace Is Patriotic," but few on either side paid them much attention.

Then, quite unintentionally, George W. Bush convinced liberals that they should stand up for their own version of the national creed. They condemned his 2000 election as a betrayal of democracy, achieved only after he lost the popular vote and got an assist from a right-leaning Supreme Court. As the "war on terror" heated up after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, liberals accused the president of violating the Constitution by snooping into library and phone records and unapologetically using torture. Then the bloody debacle in Iraq drove many a progressive to dust off the advice of John Quincy Adams that the United States should not go "abroad in search of monsters to destroy" because "she would be no longer the ruler of her own spirit."

Gradually, a liberal movement flourished, vowing to "take our country back."

[ People are looking for a way to feel good about themselves, so they've joined patriotism and their leftist inclinations to try to make them more palatable. Leftism however at its core is internationalism, so when they're done being Proud Americans, they'll discard that ruse again and return to agitating for world government. ]

Roberto Maroni, the Interior Minister, urged Italians not to take the law into their own hands after masked youths armed with wooden clubs smashed up a kebab bar near the scene of a rape at Caffarella Park on the Appian Way in Rome at the weekend.

Five Romanians were beaten savagely in the raid, and two are in a serious condition.

The attack followed an incident on St Valentine's Day in which a 14-year-old girl was raped and her 16-year-old boyfriend beaten up in the park, which is used by courting couples.

German anti-immigrant, skinhead and neo-Nazi groups in the eastern city of Dresden staged one of their biggest demonstrations since German reunification in 1990 today, as 6,000 extremists marched through the streets, police said.

Groups tied to the National Democratic Party used the 64th anniversary of the 1945 firebombing of Dresden to hold a "mourning march" through the capital of the state of Saxony. Two counter-demonstrations, led by unions and political activists, drew almost 10,000, police spokesman Marko Laske said.

"There's nothing in Germany that could compare to the scale of this Nazi march," said Robert Kusche, an activist with Kulturbuero Sachsen, which organized one of the counter-demonstrations.

When I wrote a regular column on Africa for this magazine's left-wing rival, I was always intrigued by the contrast in responses to any sceptical article on aid. 'This reactionary bigot is clearly happy for millions of Africans to starve,' pretty much summed up the fury of white readers at having their Oxfam direct debits questioned. 'No, she's right!' replied my defenders. 'These corrupt, thieving governments should be cut off without a penny.' Those ones always came from Africans.

The assumption that foreign aid is an unalloyed good runs so deep in the guilt- ridden, post-colonial West, people are often shocked to discover that many Africans, far from showing appropriate gratitude or begging for more, regard these contributions with both distrust and suspicion. No wonder this book is causing a stir.

While most critics are content to dismiss aid as largely inconsequential or simply over-sold, Dambisa Moyo - a Zambian economist who spent eight years at Goldman Sachs - goes about six steps further. Writing with tangible exasperation, she argues that aid is the worst thing to happen to her continent in the last 60 years and the biggest favour the West can now do Africa is to turn off the taps. A warning phone call, followed by five years to allow for adjustment, should just about do it, she reckons.

In 1999 black men were six times more likely to be targeted for stop and search techniques, but in 2008 they were seven times more likely to undergo the same procedure than white counterparts.

The report stated: "Ten years after the publication of the Inquiry report, there is still significant progress to be made - notably in relation to the career experiences of black and minority ethnic officers and the disproportionate use of stop and search procedures against Black groups.

"It is difficult, in light of these continued challenges, to argue that the charge of institutional racism no longer applies."

Rob Berkeley, director of the Runnymede Trust, said: "I think it can be said that the police are still institutionally racist.

A council in the West Midlands has withdrawn its funding for a St George's Day parade after claims it had attracted some "racist elements".

Sandwell Council said it would not fund a parade through West Bromwich on 23 April but it would hold other events.

It said footage of last year's parade organised by the Stone Cross St George's Day Association showed it had been "infiltrated" by the far right.

The organisers have said the parade was "not political" and "not racial".

[ This is normally a huge parade with up to 15,000 people turning up. Really banning the event is racist, as one can be certain that any similar parade by a minority group would be allowed to go ahead regardless of the political persuasion of some amongst them. The so-called "far right" would not provoke any violence or similar illegal activity. But the problem for the State is that this kind of event is useful to recruit people to nationalism as well possibly showing the public illegal violence from racist minorities and Leftists. ]

The severity of global warming over the next century will be much worse than previously believed, a leading climate scientist has warned.

Professor Chris Field, an author of a 2007 landmark report on climate change, said future temperatures "will be beyond anything" predicted.

Prof Field said the 2007 report, which predicted temperature rises between 1.1C and 6.4C over the next century, seriously underestimated the scale of the problem.

He said the increases in carbon dioxide have been caused, principally, by the burning of coal for electric power in India and China.

For Israel, handling the relationship with its Arab minority is more crucial even than dealing with Hizbullah or Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Israel needs to decide how it will deal with the Arabs in its midst. As extreme as it may sound, Lieberman's call to disown them seems to have resonated with many of his fellow Israelis. Benjamin Netanyahu has warned that Israel's Arabs constitute a demographic time bomb. He calls it unacceptable. Benny Morris, the once dovish historian who chronicled the forced expulsion of most Palestinians from the Jewish state in 1948, has turned to arguing that Israel needs to protect itself from the Arabs now living within its borders. "They are a potential fifth column," he warned five years ago in an interview with Haaretz. "In both demographic and security terms they are liable to undermine the state ... If the threat to Israel is existential, expulsion will be justified." It's a dangerous spiral: the worse the distrust gets, the less loyalty Israel's Arabs feel toward their countryâ€"and vice versa. Last week's election has brought the issue into the open. Its resolution will define the future of Israel as a country, as a Jewish state, and as a democracy.

Even in later years, when the KKK could barely muster enough Klansmen to hold a march, Virgil Griffin was defiant.

In interviews over the years, he remained stubbornly unrepentant for cross burnings, his white supremacist views - and his part in a 1979 "Death to the Klan" rally in Greensboro where five Communist labor organizers were fatally shot.

Four years ago, he told a group studying the shootings that he never would have gone to that rally had he not been goaded.

"They told us to 'come out from under our rocks.' I don't hide under no rock for nobody," said Griffin, imperial wizard of the Mount Holly-based Cleveland Knights of the KKK.

Richard Nadler utterly misses the point in his NR piece on immigration. He argues that Republicans should accept amnesty and increased immigration in exchange for promises of future enforcement ("comprehensive immigration reform"). He claims that such a move could win the votes of Hispanics, and that "every hour we postpone a border reform that respects the interests of employers and Hispanics, our entire agenda suffers."

On the contrary, the threat to the GOP and its agenda is not the party's opposition to mass immigration, but mass immigration itself. The majority of Hispanics vote Democratic, and this would surprise no one knowledgeable about American history: That's what immigrants, and the native-born closest to immigration, have always done. The Irish voted Democratic not because Yankees were mean to them as they stepped off the boat in Boston, but because the Democratic party has always been more attractive to the outsider. (David Frum touches on this longstanding difference between the two parties in his book Comeback.)

This remains the case today because mass immigration creates a political and social environment more hospitable to the solutions offered by the Left. It increases poverty and economic inequality, increases the number of uninsured, increases demand for affirmative-action benefits (for which immigrants are eligible from the moment they arrive) - in short, mass immigration in the near term doesn't so much create an electorate for the Left as a clientele. My organization's research has shown that the fiscal burden of immigration increases with legalization, as use of taxpayer-funded services balloons among newly eligible immigrants.

A few weeks ago, a senior Greek Orthodox clergyman in Israel attended a meeting at a government office in Jerusalem's Givat Shaul quarter. When he returned to his car, an elderly man wearing a skullcap came and knocked on the window. When the clergyman let the window down, the passerby spat in his face.

The clergyman prefered not to lodge a complaint with the police and told an acquaintance that he was used to being spat at by Jews. Many Jerusalem clergy have been subjected to abuse of this kind. For the most part, they ignore it but sometimes they cannot.

"When there is an attack against Jews anywhere in the world, the Israeli government is incensed, so why when our religion and pride are hurt, don't they take harsher measures?" he asks.

According to Daniel Rossing, former adviser to the Religious Affairs Ministry on Christian affairs and director of a Jerusalem center for Christian-Jewish dialogue, there has been an increase in the number of such incidents recently, "as part of a general atmosphere of lack of tolerance in the country."

[ The only problem here is the double standards. Jews in Israel should discourage non-Jews yet at the same time Jews should not insist that their presence is tolerated in other cultures. ]

The UK's official statistician weighed into the debate about foreign workers yesterday by highlighting the growing numbers of immigrants getting jobs while the British workforce declines.

On the day that figures showed the number of people unemployed at a 12-year high, the Office for National Statistics chose to reveal that the number of foreign workers increased by 175,000 to 2.4 million last year while the number of British workers fell by 234,000 to 27 million.

Karen Dunnell, the National Statistician, sought to focus public attention on the contrasting fortunes of foreign and British workers as the country slipped into recession. Her intervention came as construction workers took part in wildcat strikes at power stations in Nottinghamshire and Kent, angry about jobs going to foreigners.

The Vatican has admitted that Charles Darwin was on the right track when he claimed that Man descended from apes.

A leading official declared yesterday that Darwin's theory of evolution was compatible with Christian faith, and could even be traced to St Augustine and St Thomas Aquinas. "In fact, what we mean by evolution is the world as created by God," said Archbishop Gianfranco Ravasi, head of the Pontifical Council for Culture. The Vatican also dealt the final blow to speculation that Pope Benedict XVI might be prepared to endorse the theory of Intelligent Design, whose advocates credit a "higher power" for the complexities of life.

Organisers of a papal-backed conference next month marking the 150th anniversary of Darwin's On the Origin of Species said that at first it had even been proposed to ban Intelligent Design from the event, as "poor theology and poor science". Intelligent Design would be discussed at the fringes of the conference at the Pontifical Gregorian University, but merely as a "cultural phenomenon", rather than a scientific or theological issue, organisers said.

[ There have been signs of progress and evolution within the Vatican recently. First the pope refused to condemn the "Holocaust denier" bishop and now there is this admission that Creationism is a mistaken idea. The Catholics are now more sensible in their worldview than the Creationist protestants, who are common in the US but far less so in Europe. ]

AUSTRALIA has been singled out as a target for "forest jihad" by a group of Islamic extremists urging Muslims to deliberately light bushfires as a weapon of terror.

US intelligence channels earlier this year identified a website calling on Muslims in Australia, the US, Europe and Russia to "start forest fires", claiming "scholars have justified chopping down and burning the infidels' forests when they do the same to our lands".

The website, posted by a group called the Al-Ikhlas Islamic Network, argues in Arabic that lighting fires is an effective form of terrorism justified in Islamic law under the "eye for an eye" doctrine.

[ Always ask: who benefits? The Left, and the public in general, have been scandalized by the murderous attacks by Israel on Gaza. An Islamic extremist attack like this could only be a disadvantage to the Palestinian cause and encourage resentment of Muslims by people whose environmentalist views dispose them towards anger at the "War on Terror" and Israeli aggression.

The drought in Australia was such that the fires may have started spontaneously - but as for ideologically motivated arson - the logical culprits are Mossad rather than whatever shady Islamic Fundamentalist group may even admit to have started the fires. They have a track record of this kind of strategy to set their enemies fighting each other. Unless we learn this lesson, even when there is ethno nationalism in Europe, Mossad will cause war and internal chaos by setting people up to imagine atrocities have been done by those who are not in fact responsible. ]

William Fittall, Secretary General to the Synod, has circulated a paper which states that the Church's legal advice was that the policy could not be enforced.

He wrote: "Since the BNP is not a proscribed political party, it is lawful to be a member. Merely being a member of it could not, therefore, provide a basis for disciplinary proceedings against a member of the clergy."

Vasantha Gnanadoss, the proposer of the motion and a civilian member of staff with the Metropolitan Police, argues that the policy should be adopted to "carry a clear message to society at large".

She said: "It will make it much more difficult for the BNP or similar organisations to exploit the claim that there are Anglican clergy or church representatives who support them."

[ That's the real motivation behind this law: to try and suppress the fast rising popularity of the BNP. ]

The Independent Police Complaints Commission has severely criticised the National Black Police Association for "shockingly poor" book keeping.

The IPCC said holes in accounting records made it impossible to account for "significant" sums of money.

However, its report said that problems were more likely due to "administrative failure than dishonesty".

[ More likely due to incompetence than theft then? That's giving the benefit of the doubt. It's one of those situations where the truth would not be "in the public interest" - the "public interest" being that whites don't think negatively about non-whites. Better we thought they cocked up than that they are ripping the taxpayer off. Of course it is forbidden to have a National White Police Association. ]

South Africa's deputy foreign minister has been taken before the national human rights body for allegedly saying that "Jewish money" controls the United States, officials said Thursday.

Fatima Hajaig allegedly told a political rally two weeks ago in Johannesburg that Jews "control America, no matter which government comes into power, whether Republican or Democratic, whether Barack Obama or George Bush."

"Their control of America, just like the control of most western countries, is in the hands of Jewish money," she allegedly said.

Outraged by the remarks, the South African Jewish Board of Deputies - a civil rights group - said it filed a complaint Wednesday against Hajaig at the human rights commission.

[ When the Jews make such a fuss about someone pointing out a glaringly obvious fact, instead of merely brushing it off, they in fact shoot themselves in the foot. Then people wonder why they want to take such an aggressive stance against something anyone interested in current affairs cannot have failed to notice. And that reaction then becomes the cause of anger against Jews. ]

As the nation's first African American president prepares to take office this week, metro Portland - with its overwhelmingly white population and leadership - is demographically out of step with 2009 America.

Among the nation's 40 largest metro areas, only four - none of them in the West - are whiter than Portland, new census figures show.

"Oregon was virulently racist for much of its history," says Bragdon, the Metro leader. "And if you donâ€™t have a large minority population, that becomes self-reinforcing over time."

Portland will grow less white and more diverse - just more slowly than the rest of the country, experts say. Latinos in particular will play a much bigger role in the metro area's future.

Some listeners have actually fainted when Roche has given readings of her work. But Roche, a mother of a six-year-old daughter, is proud of her work which, some say, has 'the feminist agenda of Germaine Greer's The Female Eunuch'.

But is it really so radical? Roche has intimated that she wrote her book to liberate female readers, saying women don't talk to one another freely enough. She has also said: 'Men think they can be disgusting and sexual and stuff, and now I've shown them that women can do the same.'

[ I can't help wondering why so much of this over-hyped filth is written by Jewish people. I suppose it's down to having a nose for moneymaking and social engineering. Porn achieves both. ]

The Muslim population in Britain has grown by more than 500,000 to 2.4 million in just four years, according to official research collated for The Times.

The population multiplied 10 times faster than the rest of society, the research by the Office for National Statistics reveals. In the same period the number of Christians in the country fell by more than 2 million.

Experts said that the increase was attributable to immigration, a higher birthrate and conversions to Islam during the period of 2004-2008, when the data was gathered. They said that it also suggested a growing willingness among believers to describe themselves as Muslims because the western reaction to war and terrorism had strengthened their sense of identity.

[ And there is no reason to suggest this trend will stop any time soon. One thing for certain is that the only politics that matters in the UK is over whether Islam is the future of ethno nationalism. ]

We are forced to say that we think homosexuality is a good thing, that homosexual couples are equal in all ways to heterosexual married couples. Most emphatically, we are compelled to agree that homosexual couples are just as good at bringing up children as the children's own grandparents. Better, in fact.

Many people who believe nothing of the kind now know that their careers in politics, the media, the Armed Services, the police or schools will be ruined if they ever let their true opinions show. I am sure that many of them regularly lie about their views, to avoid such trouble.

We cringe to the new Thought Police, like the subjects of some insane, sex-obsessed Stalinist state, compelled to wave our little rainbow flags as the 'Gay Pride' parade passes by.

And that's another thing. We can't even call homosexuals 'homosexuals' any more. This neutral word is not considered enthusiastic enough. We have to say 'gay'. Which is exactly why I don't, apart from in inverted commas.

[ Very daring and heroic commentary! I expect Hitchens has a homosexual fatwa on him for his candidness. ]
