Russia and China suggest an end to fiat currency



Russia has become the first major country to call for a partial restoration of the Gold Standard to uphold discipline in the world financial system.

The world's fiat paper currencies have lacked any external anchor ever since. It is widely argued that the financial excesses and extreme debt leverage of the last quarter century would have been impossible - or less likely - under the discipline of gold.

China's government has floated a variant of this idea, suggesting a currency based on 30 commodities along the lines of the "Bancor" proposed by John Maynard Keynes in 1944.

[ This makes sense, and echoes what Ron Paul has been calling for as well. Leaving the gold standard was a scandalous move and only done for the most corrupt reasons. You can be sure that the US/Israel and western governments generally would not approve of any return to the gold standard - so Russia and China score propaganda points for showing this up. ]

Illiteracy hits a new high for Scottish school-leavers



SCOTLAND is facing an "illiteracy timebomb" with alarming new figures showing one in six now leave school unable to read, write or add up.

Worse still, a fifth of adults lack the proper skills to even look up a plumber in the Yellow Pages, with experts claiming the scale of the problem could be costing the economy £6billion a year.

In primary school, as many as one in three children fail to reach the appropriate level by the time they leave for secondary school.

[ No doubt poor teaching is a big part of this - since literacy levels in Cuba are very high and they are not exactly the most intelligent population in the world - but loss of IQ through dysgenic breeding as well as the high proportion of foreigners in schools who can't even speak English are other factors. ]

The west should copy Cuba's organic revolution



As worries about "peak oil" grow in developed nations, the communist republic is proving to be an increasingly popular example of how to cope when the spigots run dry, for the simple reason: they've already been there.

With the loss of supplies from oil-rich Russia in 1991, and a U.S. embargo preventing imports from elsewhere, Cuba was plunged into a severe recession in the early 1990's, referred to as "the Special Period."

Suddenly society was faced with dramatically reduced amounts of hydrocarbon energy, and the result was a fundamental reorganization of food production, leading to a boom in urban organic agriculture, which requires fewer inputs than conventional farming.

[ Let's hope the west does go this way rather than going in the direction of more genetic modification and control of agriculture by evil corporations like Monstanto. ]

The Pleasures of Childbirth



I know now that it was probably more like a series of orgasms over an hour. My husband said afterwards that I was shouting, "Oh my God, it's so beautiful, it's like making love", over and over again. I was trembling and smiling. The doula said my clitoris was pulsating and I kept closing my eyes in ecstasy with each passing wave as the baby moved downwards. My husband was open-mouthed. He didn't quite know what to say. He said later that it was obvious what was going on.

My baby arrived, without any pain relief, three hours later, and my recovery was incredibly quick because I did not tear or need stitches. I felt wonderful, but was slightly confused and embarrassed about what I had experienced. I also felt somehow guilty that I had felt something usually associated with sexual intercourse during the birth of my daughter. But when I went online, I found hundreds of women blogging about similar experiences.

After the birth, I was so excited that I wanted to share what had happened with friends, but their reactions quickly taught me that this was probably something I should think of as my own private but wonderful experience and keep it to myself. It's sad that women are too embarrassed to talk openly about orgasmic birth, but hopefully there will be a time in the future when we are more open-minded about our sexuality.

[ If more women approached childbirth with a positive expectation they would find the process easier, perhaps even as pleasurable as this woman did. They should tell others about how good it felt. Too many of white women are afraid that birth is an ordeal. Of course it is now easier and safer to have a baby than at any other time in history, which should help a woman relax into the experience. ]

Missouri MIAC Documents Scandal Leads to Advisory on SPLC & ADL



ALIPAC is issuing a national advisory to all local, state, and Federal law enforcement agencies and officers, along with all DHS Fusion Centers, a warning against any reliance upon faulty and politicized research issued by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) and Anti Defamation League (ADL).

Police were instructed to look for Americans who were concerned about unemployment, taxes, illegal immigration, gangs, border security, abortion, high costs of living, gun restrictions, FEMA, the IRS, The Federal Reserve, and the North American Union/SPP/North American Community. The 'Missouri Documents' also said potential domestic terrorists might like gun shows, short wave radios, combat movies, movies with white male heroes, Tom Clancey Novels, and Presidential Candidates Ron Paul, Bob Barr, and Chuck Baldwin!

"In the past, these groups have served a helpful role in America by providing information about racist and potentially violent groups like the KKK and Neo Nazis," said William Gheen. "Unfortunately, their mission has drifted into political efforts to paint almost any American or group who opposes their broader political agendas as being associated with racist or potentially violent groups just like what we saw in these scandalous MIAC documents in Missouri."

Call for higher circumcision rate



Circumcision should be routinely considered as a way to reduce the risk of sexually transmitted infections, argue US experts.

They spoke out after research found circumcision significantly cut the risk of infection with herpes and the cancer-causing human papillomavirus.

[ What cuts the risk of these diseases most effectively is not to be promiscuous and to take care not to spread the diseases around. What these Jewish "experts" fail to mention are the many physical problems associated with circumcision from accidents in the surgery, to lack of sensation; prostate problems and erectile dysfunction. It is unnatural and should be stopped. ]

Rule change blocks Le Pen from European Ceremonial Post



The main groups in the EU parliament agreed Wednesday to stop Jean-Marie Le Pen chairing the chamber at its next inaugural session, after the French far-right leader downplayed Nazi death camps.

Joseph Daul, head of the European People's Party - the biggest grouping in the parliament - backed the idea launched by the socialists and supported by the Greens to "do everything possible" to prevent Le Pen from taking the chair.

Earlier Le Pen caused a storm in the parliament by insisting that the Nazi death camps were a "detail of Second World War history," repeating a statement originally made in 1987 that shocked France.

[ As the oldest man, Le Pen is entitled to this position. But typically the goal posts are moved whenever there is a threat to the status-quo. ]

Violent extremists are outraged when others have the audacity to object to them



While we are on the subject of gullibility, what I'd like to know is why this Binyam Mohamed is taken at his word when he claims he underwent medieval torture in the hands of the Americans in cahoots with the Brits. The other thing I'd like to know is why I, a poor little Greek boy, cannot insult militant Muslims who boo British troops in Luton by calling them towelheads, yet they can call the troops murderers and child killers? I realise the sainted editor has to adhere to certain modern conventions, but being called a towel is less of an insult than being called a murderer. Muslims vilify Christians and Jews, seek death for apostates, call for Jihad against the West, yet only Taki is silenced for pointing out the fact that they wear tablecloths on their heads. A Dutch MP is banned from entering England, and a British MP is banned from entering Canada (lucky him), both men judged to be dangerous to the peace, as ridiculous an excuse as the one about Madoff's wife not being in on the con.

Freedom of speech is not for everyone, certainly not for those who dare point out that militant Islam is the greatest danger to our way of life in the past two centuries, and that what Israel is doing to the Palestinians constitutes war crimes and genocide. Incidentally, I am very proud of my betrothed, the deputy editor of The Spectator, whose dispatch from Gaza was as fair as it was timely. Israeli 'religious' soldiers were exposed by their secular brothers-in-arms for killing unarmed civilians, women, children and babies. And this from a country conceived to shelter the weak from just such crimes. Religious nationalist elements in the Israeli army have totally changed the principles of the occupiers, and it will get worse now that Netanyahu and his gang are in power. 'Iran is Germany, and it’s 1938,' said Netanyahu on CNN in November, 'except that this Nazi regime that is in Iran wants to dominate the world, annihilate the Jews, but also annihilate America.' Nothing like framing the issue in Holocaust terms in order to get American Jews to open up their wallets. Heaven help the Palestinians.

[ You can't really blame the Muslims or Jews for feigning deep distress when we criticise their murderous agendas - if the effect is that we feel terribly sorry and crawl into a hole. It must be a source of never ending amusement to them. ]

The public voluntarily comply with many Orwellian developments



Jade Goody was propelled to a very strange form of modern stardom by the reality TV show Big Brother, and even learned of the cancer that finally claimed her life last weekend on the Indian version of that programme. The title of the show was Orwellian. But what the author of Nineteen Eighty-Four could never have predicted is that the citizens would subject themselves to the scrutiny of the cameras voluntarily. The deeper threat to human dignity in 2009 is not state surveillance but pathological exhibitionism.

In so many respects, what Orwell foretold has come to pass - with the crucial difference that it has been embraced by consumers not imposed upon them by the totalitarian state. The controversy over Google Street View in recent days has been more than matched by excitement at the technological wizardry that enables us to see eye-level panoramic images of places all over the world. It is a service provided by an internet search giant, not a sinister intrusion by the Thought Police. Orwell envisaged language drained of poetry and passion by the state's imposition of Newspeak. In the event, it was the citizens themselves who invented this lifeless shorthand, in the text language that now routinely appears in the examination papers of our teenagers. As for the Junior Spies of Nineteen Eighty-Four, today’s children are already culturally primed to berate their parents for smoking, breaching environmental guidelines, or buying products that are not Fairtrade. The state does not have to get involved.

The global economic crisis isn't about money - it's about power.



The latest bailout came as AIG admitted to having just posted the largest quarterly loss in American corporate history - some $61.7 billion. In the final three months of last year, the company lost more than $27 million every hour. That's $465,000 a minute, a yearly income for a median American household every six seconds, roughly $7,750 a second. And all this happened at the end of eight straight years that America devoted to frantically chasing the shadow of a terrorist threat to no avail, eight years spent stopping every citizen at every airport to search every purse, bag, crotch and briefcase for juice boxes and explosive tubes of toothpaste. Yet in the end, our government had no mechanism for searching the balance sheets of companies that held life-or-death power over our society and was unable to spot holes in the national economy the size of Libya (whose entire GDP last year was smaller than AIG's 2008 losses).

So it's time to admit it: We're fools, protagonists in a kind of gruesome comedy about the marriage of greed and stupidity. And the worst part about it is that we're still in denial - we still think this is some kind of unfortunate accident, not something that was created by the group of psychopaths on Wall Street whom we allowed to gang-rape the American Dream.

People are pissed off about this financial crisis, and about this bailout, but they're not pissed off enough. The reality is that the worldwide economic meltdown and the bailout that followed were together a kind of revolution, a coup d'etat. They cemented and formalized a political trend that has been snowballing for decades: the gradual takeover of the government by a small class of connected insiders, who used money to control elections, buy influence and systematically weaken financial regulations.

Oklahoma Legislature Investigates Richard Dawkins' Free Speech



If this investigation is indeed taking place, what the state legislature needs to understand is that in court cases dating back to the days of the House Committee on Un-American Activities, even investigating clearly protected speech on the basis of its viewpoint violates the First Amendment.

Think about it: If every time a student or faculty member invited, say, Rick Warren to speak on campus, they knew they would be subjected to a thorough and time-consuming investigation by state officials, you can all but guarantee that schools across the country would think twice before inviting Rick Warren. This would be a great way for state legislatures to chill speech they dislike without ever having to find the speaker guilty of a single thing. Talk about your un-American activities.

Given the fact the legislature clearly is concerned with nothing other than Dawkins' viewpoint, such an investigation is improper and should end immediately.

EU upholds Austria, Hungary right to ban GM crops



Austria and Hungary reaffirmed their sovereign right on Monday to ban growing genetically modified maize after EU environment ministers squashed more attempts by the European Commission to lift the restrictions.

In a stinging rebuff to the EU's executive arm, an overwhelming majority of countries - at least 21 out of the bloc's 27 member states - voted against draft orders for Vienna and Budapest to end their GM crop bans within 20 days.

EU law provides for national GMO bans under certain circumstances if the government can justify the prohibition.

[ You can be sure that this fortunate outcome was influenced by the number of "far right" EU MPs and the threat that more will be elected if the MPs do not oppose GM crops. ]

Lula: Crisis was created by 'white people with blue eyes'



Brasilia - Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva demanded Thursday that industrialized countries take responsibility in the efforts to overcome the current global financial crisis, which he said was created by "white people with blue eyes."In a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown in Brasilia, Lula again stressed that it is necessary to regulate the international financial system.

[ Ha ha very funny Jew. I see Brown did not walk out in disgust as would be expected had da Silva made a similar racist statement about any other ethnic group. ]

Is a global super-currency on the agenda?



It started out as a call from the likes of George Soros and Ted Truman.

But the IMF's little known international accounting system of special drawing rights [SDRs] has now been propelled straight into the limelight thanks to both China and Russia. However, while Soros and Truman saw the units as a means to help induce a global helicopter cash drop to kick-start the world economy and save the peripheral states from financial implosion, the Chinese and Russians are advocating the accounting system as a means towards a new global reserve currency.

And this does make some sense. Many months ago, when the topic was firmly off the agenda we asked Ken Rogoff, Harvard economics professor and former chief economist of the IMF, about the role of SDRs in the future. His said they were basically not very meaningful in the absence of a consensus to have a world currency. So is that really what China, Russia, Soros and Truman are advocating?

[ In other words: so is that really what those who say they oppose the unipolar New World Order and also those who have worked towards the NWO all their adult lives are advocating? What is going on? ]

Malmo, Sweden: Growing Muslim Influence



MALMO, Sweden - A few years ago, the London Guardian newspaper called Sweden the most successful society the world has ever known. But Sweden today is being transformed by a large influx of immigrants from the Middle East.

Massive immigration has made Malmo today one quarter Muslim, and stands to transform it into a Muslim majority city within just a few decades. One of the most popular baby names is not Sven, but Mohammed. Pork has been taken off some school menus. Want to learn to drive? You can attend Malmo's own "Jihad Driving School."

But despite Malmo's usually placid appearance, this experiment in multiculturalism has not gone well. In the Rosengaard section of Malmo, a housing project made up primarily of immigrants, fire and emergency workers will no longer enter without police protection.

USA has two options to save its economy: declare default or trigger off war



Dmitry Abzalov believes that the current situation with the US national debt may end with a new war. The war will destroy excessive liquidity and the current debt.

"The war in Iraq began to delay the US crisis, which started brewing in the US economy at the end of 2000," he said.

The Americans have been trying to raise their economy with the help of military actions for decades, since the Great Depression of the 1930s. A war boosts the nation's industry, even if a recovery is based on defense orders.

[ I'm not an economist and don't quite understand how this works. The last couple of days bring intriguing news first that China wants to undermine the dollar by urging nations to move away from it as a reserve currency, but then China is buying up more US debt. Where's the sense in that? How can they expect to get paid back? ]

UK population must fall to 30m, says Porritt



JONATHON PORRITT, one of Gordon Brown's leading green advisers, is to warn that Britain must drastically reduce its population if it is to build a sustainable society.

Porritt's call will come at this week's annual conference of the Optimum Population Trust (OPT), of which he is patron.

Such views on population have split the green movement. George Monbiot, a prominent writer on green issues, has criticised population campaigners, arguing that "relentless" economic growth is a greater threat.

[ The economy is our enemy. And so is global overpopulation. The best way to stop the overpopulation is to reverse the immigration to the west and to stop helping the development in the Developing World. The Developing World should be encouraged or forced to have as few children as German white women do. Each ethnic group birth rate must be looked at rather than that of the individual. Otherwise a limit on the few white women who have large broods will make our ethnicity crash even worse than it already is. ]

Study gives more proof that intelligence is largely inherited



They say a picture tells a thousand stories, but can it also tell how smart you are? Actually, say UCLA researchers, it can.

In a study published in the Journal of Neuroscience Feb. 18, UCLA neurology professor Paul Thompson and colleagues used a new type of brain-imaging scanner to show that intelligence is strongly influenced by the quality of the brain's axons, or wiring that sends signals throughout the brain. The faster the signaling, the faster the brain processes information. And since the integrity of the brain's wiring is influenced by genes, the genes we inherit play a far greater role in intelligence than was previously thought.

Genes appear to influence intelligence by determining how well nerve axons are encased in myelin â€" the fatty sheath of "insulation" that coats our axons and allows for fast signaling bursts in our brains. The thicker the myelin, the faster the nerve impulses.

Roughly one in twenty 15-year-old German males is a member of a neo-Nazi group, a higher proportion than are involved in mainstream politics, according to a study released on Tuesday. Anti-semitic crimes are reportedly also on the rise, leaving many politicians worrysome about a potential resurgence of right-wing extremism.

Many politicians fear a resurgence of right-wing extremism as unemployment creeps higher in Germany, which is facing its deepest recession since World War Two. Government figures have shown anti-Semitic crimes rose at the end of last year.

"It is shocking that right-wing groups have more success recruiting male youths than the established political parties," said Christian Pfeiffer, author of the report issued by Lower Saxony's criminal research instute.

[ If this is accurate, then clearly it is far from "extreme" for a young German to support the far right, but rather the relative norm. It is especially undemocratic of the German government to criminalize political views that are more popular than their own policies. ]

Australian racially loyal politician Pauline Hanson "was right all along and we were wrong" says newspaper editor



Australia's largest newspaper group has apologised to politician Pauline Hanson for printing photos it wrongly claimed showed her in raunchy poses.

Editors from News Limited admitted that they had been conned and that the images were not of Ms Hanson.

Damon Johnston, the editor of Melbourne's Sunday Herald Sun, said: "We acknowledge that Ms Hanson was right all along - and we were wrong."

[ Let's hope the Australian electorate show how right Ms Hanson is by electing her. ]

Unapologetic Israeli foreign minister causes diplomatic problems with Egypt



Egypt may refuse to work with Avigdor Lieberman, the ultranationalist politician expected to be named as Israel's next foreign minister.

The country's leaders are demanding he apologise for comments last year in which he told president Hosni Mubarak to "go to hell".

Fearing a diplomatic breakdown, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Israeli President Shimon Peres immediately apologised to the Egyptians.

Mr Lieberman scoffed at their overtures at the time, accusing the two Israeli leaders of acting like "a battered wife" before the Egyptians.

[ Most Egyptians wish Mubrarak would go to hell too, although they hate Lieberman as well. Lieberman is much more of a straight talker than Israel is used to having in a powerful political position. He's a man who isn't afraid to be called a "racist". He wouldn't give a damn. I don't know where this right wing government is going exactly, but it looks like there is going to be less of the two-faced indecisiveness of Israel's previous governments. ]

UK police make files on the children of environmental campaigners



A few months later, in December last year, I took my eight-year-old daughter to deliver a "green" Christmas stocking and wish-list to Gordon Brown on behalf of WeCAN. As we left the tube and walked towards Downing Street, seemingly out of nowhere several policemen armed with cameras suddenly appeared. They followed us, taking photographs of the two of us walking hand-in-hand. Not only did I not know why the photos were being taken, but the police then requested our names and addresses - I could only assume they'd be used to create some sort of file on us. Only after giving all her details was my daughter allowed to approach 10 Downing Street and give the letter she had written to Brown's doorman. As I watched her I felt sick at heart that something I'd been so proud to involve her in could actually end up causing her harm. By attempting to engage her in the democratic process, had I ended up getting her a police record? And if I had, how could that be justified when no crime had been commited or even contemplated?

This was not a one-off experience. The following month, this time with my six and 10-year-old, we set off to attend a peaceful protest at Heathrow airport. We arrived to discover dozens of long-lens cameras pointed in our direction. The police were ostensibly there as a safety precaution, but they were also documenting the demonstrators with cameras, many of whom, like us, were mothers and children. Despite the fact they were still reading Biff and Chip, I had to face the unpalatable possibility that my daughters could have steadily growing police files. Add to that the experience of my friend's 15-year-old son, who had decided to film the event and was forced to erase footage containing shots of the police. What did they have to hide?

[ Everyone gets a file on them so there's no point in becoming inactive just to avoid it. It's purely intimidation, but things will get a lot worse for everyone if we stop trying to improve the world - so never be put off by this sort of thing. Really the outrage you feel should compel you to fight the system even more. ]

A hardening of street protests in France worries the government



WELL over 1m protesters took to the streets across France on Thursday March 19th as part of a day of action in defence of jobs and salaries. All eight of France's big unions joined the protests, which drew more support than a similar day of action in January. Train drivers, postmen, teachers, university lecturers, town-hall employees, carmakers, oil workers, supermarket cashiers took part. Among the unions' demands were an end to public-sector job cuts, a boost to the minimum wage and a reversal of tax cuts for the rich.

The government of Nicolas Sarkozy is worried not just by crowd numbers. With Mr Sarkozy's popularity low, public opinion seems to be shifting. For a time voters were turning against strikers, but now they may be swinging behind them. Fully 74% said they supported this week's protests, according to BVA, a pollster, up from 69% in January.

The militant tinge to the protests is new. As the Socialists fail to convince, the hard left is reviving, and with it class warfare. It has a new champion in Olivier Besancenot, a postman - himself on strike - and leader of the New Anti-Capitalist Party. One poll now suggests that he is the most credible alternative to Mr Sarkozy, ahead of any Socialist. Mr Besancenot does not miss a chance to side with strikers. He talks of workers' "exploitation", denounces Mr Sarkozy for pandering to the rich, urges "revolt" and calls on the French to copy the rolling strikes in Guadeloupe.

[ There is no validity in being "anti-capitalist" without opposing the importation of cheap labour and thus being anti-immigrant. No doubt Bescanot refuses to see this and has some confused notions of global equality and brotherhood of man. Still it is good that he is so effectively opposing Sarkozy - and would have to be an improvement on him. The rise of radical politics shows that people are uncomfortable enough to look for new solutions and that is likely to lead them to those who in fact have those solutions. ]

'Good Nazi of Nanjing' sparks debate



A film about a member of the Nazi party who saved thousands of Chinese during the massacre in Nanjing recently opened in Germany. The BBC's Zoe Murphy looks at the possible impact this unlikely hero's story may have on Sino-Japanese relations.

On Christmas Eve in 1937, German businessman John Rabe visited the mortuary in China's then capital, Nanjing.

Anti-war British politician is banned from entering Canada



George Galloway, a British member of Parliament, has been banned from Canada on security grounds, the country's immigration service has confirmed.

Mr Galloway, a Respect Party MP, said the ban was "idiotic" and he would look at legal action to try to overturn it.

British media reported the decision was due to his views on Afghanistan and the presence of Canadian troops there.

Criticism of religion may be criminalized as 'defamation'



At the United Nations Council on Human Rights in Geneva, the OIC is trying again to have "defamation of religion" banned. The aim is a universal gag on free speech, blocking the right of anyone to criticise the too frequently negative effects of religion on individuals and society. The OIC has yet to appreciate that if it succeeds in its effort to protect Islam from legitimate challenges to its less attractive doctrines and practices - to say nothing of Islamism with its murderous extreme - the relentless antisemitism from its own side of the street will have to stop too.

If it succeeds in turning criticism of religion and its main beneficiaries into "defamation", we might not be free to express our condemnation of a sentence just handed down in Saudi Arabia against a 74-year-old woman, condemned to 45 lashes, three months in prison, and deportation to her native Jordan, for having two male visitors in her home who were not relatives.

The OIC dislikes the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for the very good reason that religion, not excluding their version of it, is a systematic violator of human rights, not least the rights of women - who are one half of the world, a fact the OIC does not notice, or if it does it applies religious arithmetic to solve the problem: one woman is worth half a man. The OIC is trying to change the Universal Declaration of Human Rights accordingly.

Military Ready to Shoot Down NKorean Missile



Two senior U.S. commanders said Thursday that the military is ready if called upon to shoot down North Korea's planned rocket launch next month.

The top U.S. commander in the Pacific, Adm. Timothy Keating, told senators at a hearing that there was a "high probability" that the United States could knock down a North Korean missile. Gen. Walter Sharp, the U.S. commander in South Korea, said the threat "is real."

The comments come as North Korea reportedly prepares for what many believe will be a long-range missile test in early April. North Korea says it will launch a communications satellite, and defends the launch by saying other countries have been pursuing peaceful space programs.

US Army Confirms Israeli Nukes



As recently as Feb. 9 President Barack Obama ducked the question when asked pointedly by White House correspondent Helen Thomas whether he knew of any country in the Middle East that has nuclear weapons. Keeping the blinders on is necessary politically in order to avoid a policy confrontation with Israel.

By law, the U.S. would have to cease providing billions of dollars in foreign aid to Israel if it determined the country had a nuclear weapons program. That's because the so-called Symington Amendment, passed in 1976, bars assistance to countries developing technology for nuclear weapons proliferation.

Given the U.S.'s long history of selective blindness when it comes to Israeli nukes, it's unlikely that the Joint Operating Environment 2008 report compiled by the Army amount to much more than a minor faux pas.

Canada's science minister gives beauty-pageantesque summary of evolution



On Tuesday, Mr. Goodyear said twice during the CTV interview that he did believe in evolution.

Two out of Three Serious Teenage Criminals are Immigrants (Holland)



Two out of three serious teenage criminals are children of parents born outside the Netherlands. In most cases, no prison sentence is imposed, it emerges from a study sent to parliament by Justice Minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin.

In the research, 447 case files of youngsters aged from 12 to 17 were studied. All the files involved cases in which the perpetrator was convicted of a crime for which the maximum jail sentence is 8 years or more. These were murder, manslaughter, robbery with violence, extortion, arson, public acts of violence and sexual crimes.

Only just over one-third (37 percent) of the convicted youngsters are white Dutch. Two-thirds are of immigrant origin, meaning that they themselves or their mothers were born abroad.

Israel gets the right idea

And now he's brought into the cabinet a man who sees even the Arabs of Israel as second-class citizens.

Lieberman's first visit to Washington will be a gem. AIPAC - posing as an Israeli lobby when in fact it works for the Likudists - will fight for him and Lady Hillary will have to greet him warmly at the State Department. Who knows, he might even suggest to her that she imposes a loyalty test for American minorities as well - which would mean demanding an oath of faithfulness from Barack himself. Most people in major European countries and the United States believe unemployed immigrants should be asked to leave, a poll showed Monday, indicating growing fears over competition for scarce jobs.

The FT/Harris polls published by the Financial Times showed more than three-quarters of Italians and Britons and a majority in France, Germany, Spain and the United States would support their governments asking immigrants to leave.

40% of All New Households in UK to be Immigrant-Origin



Earlier this week, the Department for the Communities and Local Government found that the number of households was set to rise by 6.3 million to 27.8 million by 2031.

Like every other grown person in America, I have too many responsibilities and not enough timeâ€"work, husband, kid, friends, chores and so on and so on - I barely have enough time to play Scramble on Facebook, never mind catch up on my incessant chats. And I am now officially as bad at returning e-mails as I am at returning letters. I can't even return phone calls regularly, and my AIM has been blinking since last Thursday, so how am I going to find the time to tweet? Do I really need to carve time out of my day to tweet my craving for pomegranate juice? Though it may not be immediately apparent, it does take a fair amount of thinking to write these pieces, and it's nearly impossible to work and read or respond to the 20-25 tweets my Aunt Raquel sends every day. I think social networking is going to make us stupid. We're not giving ourselves any downtime to just use our brains, for reflection, fantasizing, problem-solving, whatever. Why are we Twittering when we should be figuring out what to do with all that space junk floating around in orbit?

It's hard to imagine now, but in 1944, six years after Kristallnacht, Lessing J. Rosenwald, president of the American Council for Judaism, felt comfortable equating the Zionist ideal of Jewish statehood with "the concept of a racial state - the Hitlerian concept." For most of the last century, a principled opposition to Zionism was a mainstream stance within American Judaism.

Even after the foundation of Israel, anti-Zionism was not a particularly heretical position. Assimilated Reform Jews like Rosenwald believed that Judaism should remain a matter of religious rather than political allegiance; the ultra-Orthodox saw Jewish statehood as an impious attempt to "push the hand of God"; and Marxist Jews - my grandparents among them - tended to see Zionism, and all nationalisms, as a distraction from the more essential struggle between classes.

Establishing a secular, pluralist, democratic government in Israel and Palestine would of course mean the abandonment of the Zionist dream. It might also mean the only salvation for the Jewish ideals of justice that date back to Jeremiah.

Taliban threaten to kill aid workers as spies



A top Taliban commander has issued a new threat to foreign aid workers, saying that under the insurgent group's new "constitution" they will execute them as spies or hold them in exchange for the release of Taliban fighters.

In the 15-minute interview, arranged by an intermediary for CNN, Hanafi repeated the Taliban's pledge to keep girls out of public schools.

"In my opinion," he added, "Taliban aren't allowing girls to go to schools because Taliban want women to preserve their respect by staying in their homes, not to work as laborers for others."

State attempts to assert sovereignty are being blocked



A backer of a nonbinding resolution asserting Arkansas' state sovereignty compared the measure to redrawing the lines of a football field to remind people of the boundaries.

But the majority-Democrat committee that considered the measure said the Constitution itself is a good enough guide on its own.

The House State Agencies and Governmental Affairs voted down the sovereignty resolution Wednesday, after no Democrats joined forces with Republicans to support the measure. The resolution is one of dozens filed in legislatures nationwide in response to federal programs like No Child Left Behind and the recent $787 billion stimulus package passed by Congress.

HIV/AIDS Rate in D.C. Hits 3%



At least 3 percent of District residents have HIV or AIDS, a total that far surpasses the 1 percent threshold that constitutes a "generalized and severe" epidemic, according to a report scheduled to be released by health officials tomorrow.

That translates into 2,984 residents per every 100,000 over the age of 12 - or 15,120 - according to the 2008 epidemiology report by the District's HIV/AIDS office.

"Our rates are higher than West Africa," said Shannon L. Hader, director of the District's HIV/AIDS Administration, who once led the Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's work in Zimbabwe. "They're on par with Uganda and some parts of Kenya."

"Antisemitic" Catholic website shut down by British Telecom (BT)



BT HAS banned a religious website critical of extremist Jews that it has hosted for four years following a campaign from a group of MPs claimed it was anti-Semitic.

It is understood to be the first time that a website in Britain has been shut down under such circumstances.

The site was shut after John Mann, chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Committee on anti-Semitism, raised an early day motion supported by other MPs, including Glenda Jackson and Labour MP for Livingston Jim Devine.

Mann says the website is "vile and anti-Semitic" and "seeks to inspire hate against the Jewish community amongst others".

Lesbians living in South Africa are being raped by men who believe it will 'cure' them of their sexual orientation, a report has revealed.

Women are reporting a rising tide of brutal homophobic attacks and murders and the widespread use of 'corrective' rape as a form of punishment.

The report, commissioned by international NGO ActionAid, called for South Africa's criminal justice system to recognise the rapes as hate crimes as police are reportedly failing to take action over the spiralling violence.

Crime by foreigners doubles in five years - UK



Records disclosed by 10 police forces reveal a 120 per cent rise in the number of non-Britons arrested, charged or convicted of offences between 2003 and 2008.

And figures from 20 forces, covering more than half the population of England and Wales, show that foreigners committed or were accused of more than 70,000 offences last year â€" pointing to a nationwide total of well over 100,000 offences if all 43 forces had provided figures.

The steep rise in crime committed by foreigners comes despite an overall fall in the number of crimes recorded by police during the five-year period.

Climate Change Likely To Reduce Global Population to a Billion



Hans Joachim Schellnhuber, the director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research in Germany, said that if the buildup of greenhouse gases and its consequences pushed global temperatures 9 degrees Fahrenheit higher than today - well below the upper temperature range that scientists project could occur from global warming - Earth’s population would be devastated. Is cheating contagious?



Here, briefly, is what they did: They asked a large group of university students to solve a set of complex math problems in a very short time. They made it hard enough that none could realistically solve all the problems, and they paid them for whatever ones they did solve. The math exercise was just a pretense for the real experiment: shortly after the students began on the math problems, one of them (actually a paid actor) loudly announced to the room: "I've solved everything. What should I do?" Everyone in the room knew this was impossible, so the student-actor was a clear example of blatant cheating. He also took all of the cash, as if he had a perfect score and - very important - left without any consequences.

The idea was to see how many of the students followed the cheater's example - to see if blatant dishonesty boosted cheating among students generally. And it did, dramatically. But the psychologists added another twist to the experiment: sometimes they had the actor wear the T shirt of a rival university, other times not. They wanted to see if the cheater's group identity - classmate or outsider - influenced the level of copycat cheating. That is, would students cheat more (or less) when they saw a rival cheat, as compared to seeing a compatriot cheat?

The results were unambiguous. As reported in the March issue of Psychological Science, fellow classmates had much more influence than outsiders. Indeed, seeing a rival cheat actually lowered the level of overall cheating slightlyâ€"compared to students who simply cheated on their own initiative, without any prodding. These findings argue against the "cold calculation" theory of cheating. After all, if the students only weighed the can-I-get-away-with-it factor, then they would have been influenced equally by the successful cheating of both compatriot and outsider. And they weren't.

[ If this is the case then more Jews will cheat having seen Madoff's example, while gentiles will be less likely to. There is also a great deal of evidence suggesting that the presence of diverse groups increases cheating as one group will look for ways to exploit people particularly from another group if they can get away with it - leading to a higher level of cheating even within groups. John Demjanjuk faces trial for nazi war crimes yet again



An international civil rights group has asked that John Demjanjuk be extradited to Spain on charges that he tortured Spaniards at Nazi concentration camps.

A judge in Spain is expected to decide within months whether to approve the request, a decision that could put Demjanjuk on trial, again, for war crimes.

Demjanjuk has denied the allegations. His family says he suffers from a blood disorder and is too frail to travel and stand trial.

"This is taking it to the ridiculous," said Edward Nishnic, a spokesman for Demjanjuk's family.

"It's another form of harassment against a very old and very frail man," Nishnic said.

Obviously, John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt are rabid, hateful paranoids - total bigots and anti-Semites - for having suggested that there are powerful domestic political forces in the U.S. which enforce Israel-centric orthodoxies and make it politically impossible to question America's blind loyalty to Israel. What irrational lunacy on their part:

Director of National Intelligence Dennis C. Blair announced today that Ambassador Charles W. Freeman Jr. has requested that his selection to be Chairman of the National Intelligence Council not proceed. Director Blair accepted Ambassador Freeman's decision with regret.

In the U.S., you can advocate torture, illegal spying, and completely optional though murderous wars and be appointed to the highest positions. But you can't, apparently, criticize Israeli actions too much or question whether America's blind support for Israel should be re-examined.

Man arrested after Muslims abuse British soldiers at a homecoming parade



A Muslim preacher of hate today ridiculed British soldiers who were abused during a homecoming parade - branding them cowards who have an 'uncanny knack for death by friendly fire'.

Firebrand preacher Anjem Choudary praised the Muslims who had protested at yesterday's parade for the 2nd Battalion Royal Anglian Regiment in Luton.

And in an inflammatory message posted on an Islamic extremist website, Choudary viciously mocked their comrade who was killed by friendly fire in Iraq.

His words came as police charged a man who allegedly shouted abuse at the Muslim anti-war protesters.

[ That's the situation in the UK. The Muslims get to shout abuse at the British soldiers, but when a British man verbally responds it is he who faces criminal charges. ]

Officials: Iran does not have key nuclear material



Iran does not yet have any highly enriched uranium, the fuel needed to make a nuclear warhead, two top U.S. intelligence officials told Congress Tuesday, disputing a claim by an Israeli official.

U.S. National Intelligence Director Dennis Blair and Defense Intelligence Agency Director Lt. Gen. Michael Maples said Tuesday that Iran has only low-enriched uranium - which would need to be refined into highly enriched uranium before it can fuel a warhead. Neither officials said there were indications that refining has occurred.

Maples said the United States and Israel are interpreting the same facts, but arriving at different conclusions.

[ Maples is trying to make excuses for the way Israel is attempting to push the US and other nations into supporting a military attack on Iran. It would be no surprise if Israel attacks Iran anyway (using weapons given by the US) and is just excused on the basis that they "arrived at different conclusions". But really we should be outraged that Israel lies to us to force us into wars. At least it looks as if the US may now not join in an attack on Iran and neither can Israel be presented as doing something heroic to save us all from Iranian nukes. ]

UK migrant total is 'three times the world average'



The proportion of people living in Britain who were born overseas is more than three times the international average, it emerged last night.

Eleven per cent of British residents were born abroad, against the global figure of 3 per cent.

The campaign group Migrationwatch UK said the findings dispelled the Government's 'misleading' claims that very high levels of immigration to Britain had been consistent with world trends.

[ Why are there so many more immigrants in the UK? And why does our government lie about it? Could it be because Britain has been singled out for special attention? "Destroy the best first"? ]

Film maker claims Sarkozy persecutes immigrants like Hitler persecuted Jews



France's immigration minister criticized a film director on Monday for likening the situation of illegal immigrants in France today to that of Jews under the Nazi occupation during World War Two.

Director Philippe Lioret - whose film "Welcome" about illegal immigrants trying to reach Britain from northern France opens on Wednesday - has criticized a French law that makes it a crime to help illegal immigrants.

"To see that a decent guy can all of a sudden be charged and that he can go to prison is crazy. It feels like it's 1943 and we've hidden a Jew in the basement," Lioret told the regional newspaper La Voix du Nord last week.

[ Even the Daily Mail in the UK thinks Britain should stop being a "soft touch" for immigrants, and Sarkozy wouldn't have enacted any of these mild laws if he wasn't worried about people voting for the French NF if he didn't. ]

Anti-racists are driven by ignorance and fear



It's been a busy year for offence-junkies. Richard Bean's new play has prompted anti-racism protests at the National. What for?

Try this. 'Jews and Irish, that's the worst type of intermarriage. You get a family of pissed-up burglars run by a clever accountant.' Racist, yes, but more ribald than inflammatory.

So is Bean a racist? Is Hytner? Maybe, just a smidge. Is that a big deal? Not at all. Unless you're convinced all racists end up building gas chambers. And to make that assumption is to project a personal hang-up on to a social group you want to silence and eliminate because ignorance has made you fear them. The protestors clamouring for a ban are, in their fashion, xenophobic.

[ This play sounds like trash. The reviewer makes an insightful observation about how the "anti-racists" are wholly prejudiced and fail to capture any semblance of the higher ground with their hyper sensitive and paranoid hostility. ]

Russia fast becoming Islamic



Author Eeva Nikkila-Kiipula, quotes a government report in the newspaper Aamulehti which claims Muslims are seriously changing the essential character of the Russian population. According to a report, these changes already represent a serious challenge to Russian internal stability and domestic policy.

The last 20 years have seen important demographic changes in Russia. At the beginning of the 1990s, 149 million Russians lived in the country. By 2007 the total was seven million less. Numbers are diminishing by approximately 400,000 per year.

The situation is completely different in areas with a Muslim majority. There the population is growing. Average life-expectancy is considerably higher than in traditional Russian areas. If demographic growth continues in the same way, by 2015 the majority of Russian army conscripts will be Muslims. Five years later 20% of all Russians will be Muslims. By mid-century, a majority of the Russian population will be Muslim.

The Religious Right consumes the most porn



The analysis of credit card receipts from an online adult entertainment provider puts ruby red Utah at the top of the porn consumption league. 5.7 per cent of every 1000 broadband homes in the state have a subscription. But, as the New Scientist reveals, there is also a broader political trend:

Eight of the top 10 pornography consuming states gave their electoral votes to John McCain in last year's presidential election - Florida and Hawaii were the exceptions. While six out of the lowest 10 favoured Barack Obama.

And it's not just political affiliations. Although church-goers are marginally less likely to buy porn on Sundays, the more religious a state is, the more likely it is to consume porn.


[ It's disappointing that people who would be described as conservative and who want everyone to believe they have superior moral values, standing up to the slide into permissiveness and social chaos, are largely complete hypocrites. ]

Israel's new far right



"I also advocate the creation of a viable Palestinian state," Avigdor Lieberman says nonchalantly in an article for the Jewish Week of New York.

One of the central tenets of Lieberman's recent election campaign was that Arab Israelis are a danger to the country. The slogan of Israel Beiteinu (which means "Israel our home") was "no loyalty, no citizenship". Lieberman's racist rhetoric sent a chill through many Israelis, but regrettably not enough.

Conventional wisdom would consider Lieberman's rise, which has contributed significantly to Binyamin Netanyahu's capacity to form a government, as a sign Israel has taken a sharp turn to the right. True enough â€" but that doesn't tell the whole story. Lieberman's success signifies not so much a return of Israel to the right as it does the rise of a new right, which prioritises Purer Israel over Greater Israel.

[ Sounds good. All Jews should live there (no more ZOG) and all other nations should prioritize their purity too.]

Minorities in UK to be shielded from effects of economic recession



State aid is to be targeted at women, ethnic minorities, the elderly and disabled workers to cushion them from unemployment in the recession, James Purnell, the Work and Pensions Secretary, will announce today.

Mr Purnell will launch a major review of the labour market to prevent "at risk" groups being "left behind" as Britain sinks deeper into an economic downturn.

The Government will work with Trevor Phillips, chairman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, to prevent the pattern of entrenched unemployment among these groups seen in previous recessions.

[ This is discrimination at its worst! And see how they try to make us accept favoritism towards ethnic minorities by tying it up with suggestions they are helping women, the elderly and the disabled too. This just helps to split the whites by trying to make us feel that such groups within our ethnicity are in the same category as ethnic minorities and that white bigotry is disadvantaging them. ]

Yet another Holoco$t novel is published



Publishing a book in translation is always difficult in this country. But Jonathan Littell's "The Kindly Ones," a brutally graphic novel about the Holocaust narrated by Max Aue, a former Nazi officer, presents a particularly daunting challenge.

Whom did you interview?

In the Ukraine I found two survivors of Babi Yar, one of whom was 13 at the time, so he had a very good memory. He was literally in the massacre. He survived by hiding in a culvert. He hid, and everyone marched over his head, including his parents.

How did you prepare to get inside Max's head?

I drew on my own way of seeing things. I based him mostly on myself, not anybody else.
